MARS Rumbles Into Thunderfest

The MARS DIRTcar Series will be back in action this weekend with a pair of events at the historic half mile at the Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, OK September 22 – 24, 2011. The event is being hailed as THUNDERFEST, the biggest super late model race in the state of Oklahoma in years where a possible $6,000 awaits the winner.

In one of the tightest point races in recent memory and with only a few races left to decide the 2011 MARS championship, Brad Looney of Republic, MO holds a slim 31 point advantage over Jesse Stovall of Galena, MO. This will be the second visit to the Thunderbird Speedway this year, with Stovall taking the win on April 1st. Other driver’s expected to be in attendance include, Brandon McCormick of Lebanon, MO, R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, AZ, Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, MO, Leroy Johnson of Springfield, MO, Patrick Johnson of Ash Grove, MO, Justin Asplin of Birch Tree, MO, Justin Wells of Aurora, MO, Shane Essary of Aurora, MO, Stacy Taylor of Russellville, AR, Dewaine Hottinger of Russellville, AR, Darrell Mooneyham of Verona, MO, Steve Johnson of Joplin, MO, Jeff Roth of Bentonville, AR, Randy Roth of Bentonville, AR , Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, NM, Joseph Gorby of Bartlesville, OK, Brandon Morton of Broken Arrow, OK, Jason Redman of Sapulpa, OK, Dan Leatherman of Muskogee, OK and many more.

In addition, the Late Models will be Topless. The roofs will be removed from the cars, allowing race fans a unique view of their favorite drivers.

All the action gets underway on Thursday September 22nd as practice will be held at the track from 6pm – 10pm. Grandstand admission will be FREE and pit passes will be $10. On Friday September 23rd, hot laps will begin at 7pm with racing scheduled to begin at 7:30pm. The late model feature will pay $2,500 to win. Support classes will be Street stocks, 360 mods/emods and Pure stocks. General admission is $15, kids 10 and under $5. The finale will take place on Saturday September 24th. Hot laps begin at 6:30pm at racing at 7pm. The late model feature will pay $3,000 to win. Support classes will be Street stocks, 360 mods/emods and Pure stocks. General admission is $18, kids 10 and under $5.

A $500.00 bonus will be paid to the driver that can win both features, making it a possible $6,000 up for grabs.
