Big Blocks Join Outlaws, UMP DIRTcar Racing in 11 days at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Jan. 23, 2009 — This year marks the 12th consecutive season the Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modifieds have kicked off their campaign at the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park. The two weeks of action from Feb. 3-14 at the high-speed half-mile dirt track is only 11 days away.

One of the most memorable Big Block events in Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH history came in 2002 and featured second-generation standout Tim McCreadie. He needed all 50 laps to find a fast lane at the Barberville, Fla., oval, and when he reached the final turn he filled it just in time to sweep past Brett Hearn and score his only career Big-Block victory at Volusia in a 25-mile main that was run off caution-free in just 16 minutes.

Despite leading the opening circuit, McCreadie slipped as far back as fourth before joining Hearn and Tim Fuller as they zig-zagged between lapped cars high and low as the track blackened during the second half of the race. “Tenderfoot” finally found the high line to his liking, charging around Fuller with four laps remaining to start the grandstand fans buzzing. Then he shadowed Hearn for the next three circuits before bringing the crowd to its feet one more time with a daring move around the reigning Mr. DIRTcar points king to snag a $5,000 top prize in the thriller.
