Melvin shines brightly in UMP Late Model Stars at Fredericktown

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Rodney Melvin proved to be the best of the best on this night at the Fredericktown Raceway as he was able to turn back the charge of Ed Dixon to pick up the checkered flag in the UMP Late Model feature Friday night. Dixon had to settle for second place with Frankie Martin taking third, Brent Kreke fourth and Kenny Rumble fifth. They were followed by Mike Hammerle, Kenny Helmick, Brian Collins, John Bohn and Ronnie Jarrells.

Melvin, Martin, Dixon and Rumble also had the crowd buzzing well after the night was over with their performance in the dash where Melvin edged Martin and Dixon both by inches and Rumble by a matter of feet. Martin won the first heat race with Mike Abney second and Hammerle third. Rumble won the second heat race with Dixon second and Helmick third. Melvin won the third heat with Kreke second and Bohn third.

Jathon Cruse of Desloge powered his way to a triple crown night (winning his heat race, the dash and the feature) Friday night in the Racing Association of Mini Stocks (RAMS) Points Race.
Early in the feature Cruse made a pass of Dave "The Wolf" Wofford and then turned back several challenges by Wofford for the lead before eventually cruising in for the victory. Wofford settled for second place with Rick Ruch taking third, Mike Myer fourth and Marty Boyer fifth. They were followed by Jon Paul Reando, Brian Cox, Kevin Buckley, Rusty Voyles and Jason Harper.
Cruse also won the dash when he edged out Wofford by inches for the win with Ruch also within feet of picking up the victory. Wofford won the first heat with Ruch second and Buckley third. Cruse won the second heat with Reando second and Myer third.
In the Modified class, Joe Giesler was the feature winner with Charlie Savage taking second place, Pete Koenig third, Danny Resinger fourth adn Kevin Gegg fifth. Gary Johnson finished in sixth place with Jim Swift taking seventh.

Savage won the heat race with Giesler second and Koenig third. Giesler then won the dash with Savage second and Resinger third.

Pete Koenig was a triple crown winner in the Pure Street class. In the feature Koenig was first, Derek DeSpain second, Charlie McDowell third, Russell Mathews fourth and Travis Goodman fifth. Theran Pearl finished in the sixth spot with Mike Abney Jr. seventh and Dustin Homan eighth.

Koenig won the heat race with DeSpain second and McDowell third. Koenig won the dash with McDowell second and DeSpain third.
