17 Yr Old Michael Chilton Leads STARS Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series/R & P Industrial Chimney Rookie of the Year Points Standings

A stellar lineup of talent is set to race for the 2003 R&P Industrial Chimney Sponsored STARS Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Presented by Arizona Sport Shirts. With a cash prize of $3500 up for grabs and one race in the books already a tight point battle is a given between several drivers who will be running for the award. After the first race at Bardstown on April 26 and coming off of his 8th place finish in the Spring Sizzler 30 at Bardstown, 17 year old Michael Chilton of Harrodsburg, KY has taken the number one spot in the Rookie points with 190. The young man who became the youngest driver ever last season at age 16 to make one of the most prestigious events in the Midwest the Jackson 100 last August at the Brownstown (IN) Speedway and picked up his first feature win in a non sanctioned event on April 12 at the Lake Cumberland (KY) Speedway. Chilton's orange #97 racer is sponsored in 2003 by Chilton's Lawn Care, Central Painting, Pulaski Steel, White's Fencing, Mister Kwik Food Mart, Harrodsburg Wholesale Tire, Green Line Implement, American Racer Tires, AMS Race Engines and C.J. Rayburn Race Cars.

Giving chase to Chilton in second place is Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN. Marlar is 15 points behind first place as the 2002 UMP Open Wheel Modified Runner-up in points to Jimmy Owens drives the Todd Truss Company, Wayne Bowen Racing Supply Wilson's Service Center, CarCosmetics.net, ARC Race Engines, C.J. Rayburn Race Cars #157. Marlar finished 11th in the BoB race this past Saturday Night at Bluegrass Speedway.

Currently in third place after one event is John Whitney of Blanchester, OH. The 33 year old driver has 160 points and ran 14th in Saturday's BOB race after starting in 20th. He drives the Owen and Mary Lu Stephens of Flemingsburg, KY owned Swartz Chassis Monte Carlo #34. His sponsors in 2003 include Doyle Fertilizer, Stephens Trucking, Performance Auto, B&M Farms, AAmco Transmissions, Fleming Auto Parts, Grasshopper Crumps Lawn and Garden and Lefevers Trucking.

Holding down the fourth position is Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN. The 27 year old former street stock track champion at the Twin Cities (IN) Raceway Park in Vernon, IN and owner of several open wheel modified wins the last few seasons including the 4 Crown Nationals for Modifieds at Eldora (OH) Speedway in his first full season of Late Model competition which has been impressive so far. He made his first ever BoB Race Saturday Night at Bardstown and hiseason accomplishments are something to brag about. He set a new track at Volusia County Speedway in Florida on February 14, won his first career Late Model Feature on April 5 during the opening night at the Florence (KY) Speedway and led several laps at Eldora on April 12 during the Sunoco American Late Model Series event. Kramer drives the number 77 Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo owned by Jeff and Eddie Harrod of Frankfort, KY. The sponsors on the white and blue entry this are Harrod Farms, Perry Auto Sales, Danny Harrod Construction, Frank Hayden Builders, Rockland Farms, Lexington Loose Leaf Tobacco Warehouse and AMS Racing Engines.

Rounding of the top five in points after one event is veteran Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY. The 38 year old driver is behind the wheel of the Duke Mounce of Mitchell, IN owned Rocket Chassis Grand Prix #80. The sponsors on the side the car this year include Guardian Mortgage, Jack's Lounge, KH Graphics, Gill Farms, Mounce Auto and Truck Repair and Terry Cummings Race Engines.

To be eligible for the 2003 R&P Industrial Chimney Rookie of the Year a driver must have never won a STARS Battle of the Bluegrass sanctioned event in 2002 nor made five BoB main events in 2002.
