BELLEVILLE, IL: Midget auto racing makes its return to Belleville Illinois's Belle-Clair Speedway this Sunday, June 13th. This event will be the first of four midget shows to be held at the popular St. Louis area dirt track.

Sanctioned by the Midwest Auto Racing Association (M.A.R.A.), the midgets' summertime visits to Belle-Clair have become the highlight of the area's open wheel racing calendar.

"Belle-Clair is my favorite track to see the midgets compete," said Brian Thompson co-promoter of the Belle-Clair races. "The shows we have held the last two years were very well received among fans and competitors alike.

"This is exciting, bullring-style auto racing. No doubt about it. A driver is in traffic all the time. The racing can get pretty wild!"

2003 M.A.R.A. champion Steve Knepper returns this year as will crowd-favorite Joey Montgomery who has a midget ride again this year. Montgomery, a local winged sprint car driver, won a M.A.R.A. race at Belle-Clair last season.

A strong field is expected at Belle-Clair on Sunday including drivers from Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and elsehwere throuhgout the Midwest. The Belle-Clair midget shows will award points to the crowning of the Gateway Open Wheel Racing Series Championship which is sponsored by Hoosier Tire Midwest.

In addition to the midgets, the winged outlaw 600cc micro sprints will be in action as well. Race time this Sunday is 6:30 pm. Adult tickets are $12. Children under 10 are admitted free
