MADISON, Ill. (May 21) – Think of it as a Non-Slumber Party with horsepower.
Gateway International Raceway will host a Midnight Madness all-night session for street
cars this Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Gates will open at 11 p.m., or after the regular Friday night E.T. Bracket Series action
ends. Cars will be able to make runs on the Gateway quarter-mile until 6 a.m.

Cost is $20 for car and driver, and $10 for spectators. If someone leaves the grounds, they
will have to pay the fee again upon re-entry.

All cars must have street tires and mufflers, and must pass tech inspection. The event will
be limited to 275 entries.

The win lights will be activated on the scoreboards, and drivers can receive a time slip to
chart their performance during a run, but the scoreboard timing lights will not be turned
on during the evening.

“This is an experiment, a way we hope will allow those who might normally try racing on
the streets to come run at a place where they are safety precautions – and no unsuspecting
pedestrians or oncoming traffic to worry about,” Gateway Drag Racing Manager Dale
Sandage said. “If it works well, we will have further Midnight Madness dates later this
year. We are trying to do everything possible to take racing off the street and put it in a
place where drivers and spectators can enjoy themselves safely.”
