CARTERSVILLE, GA – The StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will travel to Mississippi for a double racing weekend with Rounds 7 and 8 of the 2007 season. The action begins this Friday night with a 40-lap $2,500-to-win race at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, and then moves to Swinging Bridge Raceway in Jackson, MS on Saturday night for a 50-lap $3,000-to-win event.
This weekend also marks the beginning of the 2007 StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series season, of which both Southern Speedway and Swinging Bridge Raceway are a part of the West Region. All competitors participating in the National Touring events this weekend will receive ten bonus points towards StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Regional points.
A tight points race for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Championship will highlight this weekend’s competition at Southern Speedway and Swinging Bridge Raceway.
Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA holds a slim ten-point lead over the defending StormPay.com DLMS National Champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN. Both drivers are still looking for their first wins of the season after six starts. Ingram with 500 points has three top five finishes, and five top ten finishes, and Gentry with 490 points has two top fives, and four top tens.
Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA is third in points with 482 points after posting four top five finishes. Like Ingram and Gentry, Rainey is also looking for his first win of the season.
Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN is fourth in the StormPay.com DLMS National points chase with 466 points. Buckingham has two wins on the season with three top five finishes, and one fast time award. Buckingham is the defending StormPay.com DLMS winner at Swinging Bridge Raceway.
Jay Blair of Angie, LA is a strong StormPay.com DLMS title contender, even though he has only competed in five of the first six races. The “Angie Assassin” has one win and four top five finishes. Blair is fifth in the StormPay.com DLMS National standings with 456 points. Blair picked up A StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series win at Southern Speedway in March 23.
Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA is sixth in the StormPay.com DLMS National standings with 448 points, and also leads the Rookie of the Year point standings. Brindle jumped off to a quick start with two wins, three top tens, and two fast time awards in his first six starts of the 2007 season. The 21-year-old driver has also led the most laps of competition pacing the field for 78 laps.
Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is seventh with 416 points, and Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA is in the eighth spot with 404 points. Chris Tays of Corinth, MS is ninth in the StormPay.com DLMS points with 394, and Rookie of the Year candidate Robert Stutts of Murfreesboro, TN rounds out the top ten with 388 points.
StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series regulars Carnell Parker III of Clarksville, TN, and another Rookie of the Year candidate Jim Till of Greenville, AL are just outside the top ten in points with 334 and 312 respectively.
Other top entrants expected include “Dr. Dirt” Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA, the 2006 StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series West Region Runner-Up Terry Mosley of Gilbertown, AL, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, Robbie Harvey of Lake, MS, Landon Frith of Terry, MS, Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS, and Doug Todd of Brandon, MS.
