Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 14, 2014) – Added money and bragging rights are on line Saturday night at Dodge City Raceway Park as the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile clay oval in Southwest Kansas hosts the Second Annual Modified Stampede.

The $1,200-to-win Modified Stampede for IMCA Modifieds headlines a full card of championship chase action that also includes IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets with racing action going green at 7:30 p.m.

Dodge City Raceway Park’s regular championship points contenders in the IMCA Modifieds will battle it out with a host of invaders, as 40 different drivers took part in the Inaugural Modified Stampede last year.

And all evidence points to the Modified Stampede being a wide-open affair with six different winners in as many IMCA Modified features at DCRP thus far in 2014. Two-time track champion Brendon Gemmill was the most recent winner on June 14, joining the 2014 list of victors that includes Van Gemmill, Clay Sellard, Joel Lane, Jesse Smith and Scott Brown.

Leading the contingent of DCRP contenders into Saturday’s action are current points leader Ryan Heger and defending track champion Austin Allen. Hugoton’s Heger currently holds a slim 9-point lead over Wichita’s Allen in this year’s title chase.

Heger and Allen have some company in a tightly-bunched points race with Jesse Smith, Cole Traugott and Kale Beavers all within striking distance as they set their sights on a Modified Stampede title this weekend.

Leading the way into Saturday’s action in the track’s other chase divisions are Jeff Kaup in IMCA Sport Modifieds, Perry Misner in IMCA Stock Cars, William Bauer in Thunder Cars and Jarett Lunow in Hornets.

Defending IMCA Sport Mod track champion Kaup of Woodward, OK, has opened up a commanding 74 point advantage over Josh Appel with Austin Walker just another 21 points back in third, while Misner holds a similar lead (67 points) in the IMCA Stock Car ranks over Dusty Witthuhn, who is just five points ahead of Michael Pepper for second.

Bauer’s edge in the Thunder Car ranks is a slim one at just 11 points over Dustin Walker while Lunow is a perfect five-for-five in Hornet action to open up a 49-point advantage.

Adult admission for Saturday’s Second Annual Modified Stampede is $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
