For those who have already stopped by ModifiedNews.com, I would like to personally thank you. We have decided to move where we host this site. We will probably be down for about 24 hours (or so). I have a “Launch Statement” about ModifiedNews.com posted below.

This week we will have a text story posted on Kelly Shryock and Jason Wheatley (once the move has been completed).

Thanks for the support.

ModifiedNews.com Launch Statement

By: Bucky Doren | December 27, 2004

[Cedar Falls, IA] - - The goal of ModifiedNews.com is to shine the spotlight on the many open-wheel modified race teams from coast to coast. We do not want to just talk to the traveling teams winning championships, but we also want to talk to the weekend warriors slugging it out in the bullrings across the country.

I’ve been at a race track just about my whole life. Whether it was as a kid in the grandstands as my dad took his car to all the different tracks in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, or it was as a teenager in the pits learning chassis set-ups, or it was as an adult in the booth doing play-by-play or reporting, or what ever, I have always loved this sport. That is the main reason why I started RaceRPM.com. That has grown larger (both in fans visiting and area covered) then I ever dreamed it would.

I think a larger reason things have gone well is the Live Audio Updates and the driver interviews we have done over the last four years. It allows race fans over a great distance to be able to keep up with a lot of different types of racing in a lot of different locations. Basically, it is something different than what was being offered. That is one of the strong driving forces behind ModifiedNews.com. It was something different that was NOT being offered to the dirt track racing world.

As I stated before about ModifiedNews.com, “It’s a long time in coming.” This is not to say that the open-wheel modified racing is better than any other class. We feel that anybody who spends countless nights laboring on a four-wheeled chariot is an important part of our beloved racing community. There is always a "pyramid of power" (if you will) in any society. Racing is no exception.

We will still talk with the many late model drivers, and we will continue to provide Live Audio Updates (www.RaceRPM.com/Live) of some of the bigger late model shows in the Midwest, but we have decided to make a bigger effort in doing the same with the modified class in 2005 (and beyond).

ModifiedNews.com’s primary feature will be feature stories on drivers and events. All the web sites and race teams I work for and promote race mainly on dirt, and because of that, ModifiedNews.com will have a strong dirt feel to it, but that does not mean we will not talk about other forms of modified racing.

We also would like to help spread the word on what some of the race teams have been up to (new sponsors, different chassis, winning streak, and so on). At this time, there is not a plan to post results on a daily or weekly basis at ModifiedNews.com. RaceRPM.com will continue to do that. We are working on developing something to highlight racing results, but it will be just that highlights.

Just like any new racing program, it may take a few laps to figure out what the car needs. I would like to personally ask for your patience as we dial this thing in. There will be growing pains along the way.

Since our launch just about one week ago, we’ve seen an incredible response to the new site. We’ve seen a lot more traffic than we expected. The emails from race teams, race fans, and race sanctions have been very encouraging. I knew this would be something that would be well received by the racing community but not this early. I just hope we can do it justice to all who love to see exciting open-wheel modified action.

Our first growing pain came this week. The traffic to the site has been about four to five times that of what I projected during the first week. The traffic we saw was not enough to blow up a server or anything, but it was enough to take notice that it might be wise to move it to its own server now. I figured we would have to do this eventually, but I figured I could wait before placing that expense. By moving it now, this should eliminate any “down-time” when the move would have taken place down the road.

The emails have been great. A lot of teams and fans have sent a “thumbs up” email to us saying this is a great idea. I personally have heard from a handful of sanctioning bodies about submitting feature stories. We are developing a way for race teams to submit news stories right from the web site. The biggest issue is creating a way to verify the news. I expect that page to be active by mid-January.

On behalf of the entire staff at Bucky Doren Entertainment, LLC (both paid and volunteer), I would like to thank those who have stopped by ModifiedNews.com, and we hope you tell your friends about ModifiedNews.com

Thanks, Bucky Doren.
