CARTERSVILLE, GA – Monticello Speedway in Monticello, AR has become the first dirt track in Arkansas to be sanctioned by the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series. The Monticello Speedway Late Model Division will compete on Saturday nights in 2007 under the rulebook of the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series.

The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series gives drivers competing in a dirt late model powered by an economical GM Performance Crate Engine an opportunity to compete for a Regional point fund against other racers across the country without leaving their home track using a common set of rules and points system.

The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series points season for sanctioned tracks throughout the country begins on March 30 and runs through September 30. Drivers will earn Regional points during this period, with their best 16 finishes counting toward their point totals.

Monticello Speedway Owner and Promoter Joseph Chapman saw the growing trend of dirt late models powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines, and took the lead in Arkansas by signing up for the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series.

“The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series sounds like a good program, as it promotes more economical and more competitive racing,” Chapman said. “We will be replacing our super late model division with the crate late model division for 2007. We have a hand full of super late model competitors that are disappointed, but we have a lot more competitors from other divisions that welcome the move.”

Chapman said he has several drivers from the lower divisions at Monticello Speedway that will be moving into the late model division, a move, he said, that wouldn’t have been possible if the switch wasn’t made to the crate late models.

“Everybody that races in the lower division eventually wants to race a late model, but most of them can’t afford the cost of a $30,000 super late model engine,” Chapman said. “Now they can race a late model using a $5,000 engine. I’ve got racers moving up from the Limited Modified Division and the Street Stock Division into the Late Model Division.”

The addition of Monticello Speedway marks the tenth different state where the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series has sanctioned events in its two-year existence.

“We welcome Monticello Speedway to our growing family of StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks,” StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series President of Operations and Communications Roby Helm said. “We look forward to working with Joseph Chapman and his staff in a positive and productive manner in promoting Monticello Speedway and its competitors.”

The engines for the dirt late models competing with the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series are GM Performance Crate Engines. They are built and sealed at the factory to prevent competitors from making any expensive modifications.

The GM Performance Crate engines are shipped to GM Dealers throughout the country, and are readily available to be picked up and placed in the race car the same day. The aluminum-head 400 horsepower 604 engine sells for right at $5,000, and the steel-head 350 horsepower 602 engine sells for right at $3,000. The 602 engine also gets a 150-pound weight break.
