BATESVILLE, AR (September 20, 2005) – Billy Moyer and the #21 Banner Valley Hauling/Petroff Towing/J&J Steel/McCarthy’s One Hour Rayburn team visited victory lane at the World of Outlaws/U.M.P. co-sanctioned “Pepsi Nationals 55” at Ray Marler and Ken Schrader’s I-55 Raceway. The win was Moyer’s ninth of the 2005 season and is his record-setting sixth “Pepsi Nationals” title.

After struggling in qualifying, “Mr. Smooth” notched a runner-up finish in the heat race and started the A-Main from the 11th place berth. Moyer, ever the veteran, paced himself during the caution-filled 55-lap event and made a dramatic three-wide move on lap 42 to pass race leader and teammate Shannon Babb who struggled without power steering. Moyer remained unchallenged for the final thirteen laps and he mastered lapped traffic while runner-up Darrell Lanigan and the rising regional star Brian Shirley battled behind him. “Mr. Smooth” crossed the stripe with Lanigan, Shirley, Eckert and Babb in tow.

“Shannon was running good at the beginning of the race and his car was definitely better than what mine was”, stated a victorious Moyer. “When Shannon started to smoke I thought something bad was wrong with it but it acted like it didn’t slow him down much except for those couple of laps. I just about got into him here on the front chute when he hit that slick spot. I came down off the bank and I thought I was gonna take us both out. That probably wasn’t too smart. But, it turned out good for us and we finally got some luck on our side.”

Moyer’s win also allowed him to regain the World of Outlaws’ point lead over Steve Francis who finished ninth after a difficult night. “Mr. Smooth” was then able to extend his point lead over Francis the next day courtesy of his solid third place finish at the World of Outlaws’ “Illinois Fall Nationals” at the one-mile oval of the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The #21 team is now 16 points ahead of Francis as they continue on the World of Outlaws’ trail this weekend and visit Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway and Clarksville (TN) Speedway.
