The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be in competition again on Saturday April 29th at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, IL. It will be the second round of fourteen race events scheduled for MSCS during the season. And three more of those will be held on the ¼ mile fairgrounds’ oval at Lincoln later in the season.

MSCS already has a supporting cast of 63 drivers. Fifty-one raced at Terre Haute in the recent season opener won by Bud Kaeding. Kaeding is in the seat of the Benic 2K driven to the USAC Sprint Car Title last year by Levi Jones. With USAC in competition elsewhere that evening, fans might be looking at a new face in victory lane. The field will no doubt have the 2006 MSCS Race Face in place. Challengers for the MSCS title this season include Alex Shanks, Jerry Ruble, Chase Stockon, Hud Cone, Dale Christian, and Erik Folger. They join many others who are already distributed among the top thirty in points.

MSCS sprint cars owners and drivers do not rely on wing technology. These cars have drivers who thrive on racing that is bound in traditional wheel to wheel battles with wide open 410 power plants that require drivers who can still set the car in the corner and then stand on the gas. However, the regular Winged drivers at Lincoln and that region of Illinois are welcome to take the wing off and run with the MSCS contingency.

Going into this event Kaeding leads the point standings over Kent Christian and Dave Darland. Defending Champion Alex Shanks is 9th. Jerry Ruble is just behind him and second in this season’s “Hard Charger Standings” behind Jon Sciscoe. Sciscoe improved 15 spots at Terre Haute during the main event to become round one’s Hardest Charger. Kaeding’s win on AFCO Shocks has him leading the MSCS sponsor’s contingency program.

Expected to join the current cast of rookie drivers is Craig Carey. The Carey Family just completed a new Stealth Sprint Car and Lincoln will be their first outing. Carey is the 2004 MARA Midgets National Champion. “We are really excited about joining and racing with the MSCS group and representing MSCS in the non-wing world of sprint car racing.”

Other top rookie candidates that have already tested the MSCS field includes Jason Holt, 16 year old Arin McIntosh, and Russ McDonald. The three Indiana drivers have a week’s head start on other first year drivers just now preparing to enter the fray. Engler Machine and Tool is once again sponsoring this Year’s Rookie of the Year Award!

The 30 lap feature race will pay the winner $2,500. Twenty cars will start the main, 21 if a provisional is used. Every driver starting the feature is guaranteed $200. The $100 tow money is in place to insure a good car count. Drivers not making the feature will receive tow money to offset the expenses of supporting this event.

Mufflers are required on the sprint cars for this event. Gates open at 2:30 P.M.
