The racing continued at Mt Vernon Raceway with a warm night and cars in all classes.

In the UMP Late Model division, there were 15 cars on hand. In time trials, Kyle Monroe took fast time for the second week in a row with 13.727 seconds over the ¼ mile track.

In the first heat, Tony Boyles took the win over Bruce Unterbrink, Kyle Monroe, Kenny Helmick, Brad Loddeke, Randy McMahon, and Dan Jacober. In the second heat, Rodney Melvin won with Billy Faust, Bobby Melvin, Mike Munson, James Burell, and Patrick Tretter in pursuit. In the dash, R. Melvin got the win followed by Boyles, B. Melvin, Unterbrink, Faust, and Monroe.

The feature started with R. Melvin and Boyles on the front. R. Melvin took the early lead and never looked back. The race was beginning to look like it could go green for the third week in a row, but on lap six the night changed for everyone. The car on the move was Mike Munson, who started eighth and was moving upwards. On lap seven, Munson ran up the back straight outside wall twice while trying to pass B. Melvin. As Munson tried to gain control of his car, the car went right and struck the beginning of the turn three outside wall head-on.

After several minute of working with Munson the ambulance crew were able to get him out of the car on him own power. Munson walked to the ambulance and was taken to the pits. He appeared not to need hospital care at the time and the race continued.

The restarted saw R. Melvin, B. Melvin, Faust, Boyles and Unterbrink in the top five. R. Melvin continued to lead, but his lead was not too big as B. Melvin, Faust and high running Monroe all were within streaking distance of the leader. The four car race was one of the best seen in a while. Anyone of these cars could have taken the win. They raced this way for several laps as there was a real race on the tack for a change.

B. Melvin took the lead from R. Melvin on lap 11 as R. Melvin use the high side with B. Melvin on the low side. That lead last for five laps as R. Melvin found the high side of the track to his liking and retook the lead on lap 16, who he never gave up again.

The final caution came out on lap 16 for McMahon’s problems in turn four. The running order was now R. Melvin, B. Melvin, Monroe, Faust and Helmick.

The race were green to the end with R. Melvin getting a little lead over Faust followed by B. Melvin, Monroe and Loddeke rounding out the top five. Only two car fell out of the race.

In the UMP Modified class, there were 20 cars in the pits. Fast time was set by Mike Brumley with a 15.042 seconds.

In the dash, Matt Mevert got the win over Brent Mullins, Marty Lindeman, Mark Ford, Brimley and Tim Lewis. In the first heat, Kevin Cole took the win over Tim Burdel, Chris England, Mike Higginson, Wayne Downing, Glenn Stephens, and Billy Lewis. In the second heat, Steve Cole won followed by Brad Withershaw, Todd Gailius, Scott Riggins, Troy Carter, and J.W. Moore.

In the feature, Mevert and Mullins started on the front row. Mevert took the early lead. There were two early caution that slow the racing down, but Mevert continued to hold the lead. Mevert was pushed by Mullins the entire race. These two ran for the lead lap after lap. The biggest battle occurred in turns one and two with Mullins almost getting pash Mevert in these turns. Mevert had the advantage in turns three and four.

On lap 11, Moore spun in turn one and that set the race to the end. At this the final restart, Mevert was in the lead with Mullins, Lindeman, England, and Ford in the top five. With the race continuing, Mevert and Mullins continued to do battle in turns one and two until lap 16, when Mullins took over the lead coming out of turn two. That was the move that won Mullins that race.

Mullins got his first win at Mt Vernon and was followed by Mevert, the point leader, Lindeman, England, and Kevin Cole to round out the top five. England came from 11th staring spot to finish in the top five.

In the Steel Block Late Model class, there were 15 cars in the pits. Fast time was set by Rodney Melvin. In the dash, Melvin took the win over Jeff Sloan, Shane Cockrum, Ray Emling, Rick Isaacs and Chuck Still. In the heat race, Chris Winters took the win over Don Lamacchia, Dave Huite, Mike Galloway, Richard Baker, Don White, Donnie Bowman, Doug Mandrell, Ed Purcell and Louie Baker.

In the feature, Melvin took the win, but not without a fight from Cockrum. Cockrum finished second followed by Slaon, Emling and Still to complete the top five.
