The UMP Summer Nationals hit full throttle with a return to Mt. Vernon Raceway on Thursday, June 30, closing out the first full week of competition on the 2005 Tour. The annual Summer Nationals series of races is a grueling test of skill and endurance as the drivers and their crews battle it out over 29 events in 30 days. Defending UMP National Champion Rodney Melvin already has one win under his belt going into Thursday night’s race, but Shannon Babb currently leads the outright winners table with two features to his credit in the first six events.

Thursday night’s Late Model feature winner will take home $6,000, while Cingular Wireless of Mt. Vernon is guaranteeing a bonus of $150 to the dash winners in both the Late Model and Modified classes.

Tickets for this event are $20 for adults, $5 for kids 7-12, 6 and under free. Pit passes are $35 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Pit gates open at 3 p.m., spectator gates open at 5 p.m. Qualifying is at 6 p.m., racing at 7 p.m. For more information call Rick’s Towing at, 618-242-4500.
