Murphy, NC – After nearly a decade of serving the dirt Late Model industry and community the nationally renowned racing newspaper National Dirt Digest will be undergoing a substantial restructuring in content, concept, coverage and direction with the debut of the ‘new’ National Dirt Digest slated to begin with the October 3 issue. With the addition of several new staff members and the reformatting of the editorial direction the popular bi-weekly newspaper owned by parent company McLeod Media, L.L.C., will not publish the next two regularly scheduled issues after the August 22 edition.

“While we apologize for our short-term absence, we definitely hope our readers will continue to enjoy National Dirt Digest,” stated Brian McLeod, co-publisher. “We have currently hired three of the best full-time writers and graphics talent available in the trade paper industry, with one more coming soon we hope, and we have an eye on improving this product to give our readers something we should have been giving them all along, and that’s more stories and more behind-the-scenes information than they’ll get anywhere else in the industry.”

“That will mean less emphasis on actual week-to-week race coverage and more emphasis on creative graphics, additional color pages, photo pages, feature stories, interesting columns, half-page short stories and smaller tidbits of information from all corners of the sport. Most of our readers tell us that our behind-the-scenes information is what’s most interesting about our publication, and we want to give them more of that.”

Sam Holbrooks, Randy Fisher & Paul Fletcher has all come on board to serve as editors. Previous editor Todd Turner recently departed to pursue other interests. “I give much of the credit to Todd for all that he has done for National Dirt Digest,” commented McLeod. “Todd did a wonderful job for us and he is a friend for life.” National Dirt Digest’s first edition was published June 24, 1998 with former editors Tim & Susan Lee at the helm.

“In short, we’re throwing away the fat to give our readers a more meaty publication,” explained Carolyn V. McLeod, co-publisher. “If it’s dirt Late Model racing, National Dirt Digest will still be the industry standard. We’re just going to look a little bit different than we have in the past. There’s no better time than the present to move forward with new ideas and a fresh look in mind for National Dirt Digest. We just need some time right now to integrate new writing personnel, new layout ideas and new creative aspects to make National Dirt Digest a bigger industry leader than we’ve already become.”

“We just want to inform our readers that our next two issues will not be published on schedule. We will return to normal operations effective with our October 3 issue and we hope everyone realizes this is temporary. We are very excited about the transition and what we have planned for our readers. I am confident they will feel it was worth the wait when they see what we are planning.”

The current issue has just been released and in addition to its regular features carries extended coverage from the Topless 100 at Batesville, Ark. All subscribers will have their subscriptions extended two issues.
