CARTERSVILLE, GA – As Week 17 unfolds this weekend for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies, the battle for the National Championship is wide open with no apparent front runner shinning above another. The NeSmith Performance Parts Summer Nationals Shootout this Saturday night will highlight Week 17 action with Twin $1,000-to-win race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The battle for the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship is wide open because only four drivers in the Top 20 of the point standings have a Weekly Point Average above 46. The Weekly Point Average, or WPA, is a gauge used to determine just where a driver stands in the point battle. A perfect WPA is 50 which represents 14 50-point wins.

Including the Summer Nationals Shootout that will be co-sanctioned by the Mississippi Street Stock Series, there are six Week 17 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Races on the Schedule of Events.

NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 17 competition begins on Friday night with races at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS and at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL. Saturday night Week 17 races will also be held at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, and at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.

The NeSmith Performance Parts Summer Nationals Shootout this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track will feature two $1,000-to-win 20-lap main events. The first race will carry NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 17 points and MSSS points. The second race will be a Week 10 Make-Up Race and points will be awarded for that week of competition.

The format for the NeSmith Performance Parts Summer Nationals Shootout will call for Qualifying with the top six qualifiers locked into the main event, and they will redraw for their starting spots in the big show. Qualifiers seventh on back will attempt to transfer to the first feature race through a B-Main Race.

At the conclusion of the first 20-lap $1,000-to-win race, the top ten finishers will redraw for their starting spots in the second 20-lap $1,000-to-win race.

There will also be a Non-Qualifiers Race for the drivers that fail to make the feature race through Qualifying or B-Main Races. The winner of the Non-Qualifiers Race will have the option of pocketing $400 and calling it a night, or the Non-Qualifiers Race winner can forfeit the $400 and start 25[sup]th[/sup] in the first feature race, which also makes them a guaranteed starter in the second race.

Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point leader going into Week 17 competition. Idom has a best 14 week total of 665 points and will begin trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among his best 14 with a higher one.

Idom will be trying to net on a 41, which means he could net nine points with a 50-point win and bring his season total to 674 points. Idom is also looking strong in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship hunt, as he has the third highest Weekly Point Average among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 47.5 out of a possible 50.

David Windham of Florala, AL is second in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 638 points. Windham will be trying to net on a 39, which means a 50-point win would net him 11 points, and bring his season total to 649 points. Windham has the fifth highest WPA at 45.57.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS is third in the standings with a best 14 week total of 629 points. Leftwich has the seventh highest WPA at 44.92 and he will be trying to net on a 41. Mike Lane of Pace, FL is fourth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 627 points. Lane will be trying to net on a 40, and he has the eighth highest WPA at 44.78.

Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a total of 522 points and three more weeks to earn full points. Combine that with the fact that Whittington has the fourth highest WPA at 47.45 and you have the formula that makes Whittington a title contender.

Three more 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship contenders are sitting outside of the Top 10 of the point standings going into Week 17 competition. This trio of drivers will be looking to race their way into the Top 10 of the point standings in the next few weeks of racing.

The defending NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Champion Trey Bright of Coker, AL is in contention for his second straight title, as even though he is currently 12[sup]th[/sup] in the standings, he has the highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 48.1. Bright has a total of 481 points and four more weeks to earn full points before he reaches the 14 week mark.

Calvin Cook of Pace, FL has put himself in title contention with the second highest WPA at 48. Cook is 18[sup]th[/sup] in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a total of 384 points and he still has eight more weeks to earn full points in the 11 weeks that are left in the 27-week season.

Tyler Hurst of Lineville, AL is 15[sup]th[/sup] in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 409 points, and five more weeks to earn full points. That give Hurst the sixth highest WPA at 45.44.

Drivers that race at NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 28. The 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies National Champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.
