CARTERSVILLE, GA – As the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies reaches the first-quarter mark of the 2014 season, drivers will be looking to improve upon their Weekly Point Averages that will come into play over the next few weeks. The Week 7 schedule offers up eight races this weekend.

Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will open the NeSmith/AR Bodies Week 7 competition this Friday night, where Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS will be looking for his fourth straight win. Beginning this Friday night, Hattiesburg Speedway has placed a $50 per week Bounty on Idom and his “throwback” 1957 Chevrolet.

Saturday night NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division action will be contested at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Just because a driver is outside the Top 10 of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings at this point of the season doesn’t mean that they aren’t a title contender. At this point of the season, the drivers that have raced the most have earned the most points.

Since the points system takes a driver’s best 14 weekly finishes, the standings will show some dramatic changes after the 14-week point of the 27-week season. Once a driver reaches the 14 week point in the season, they are done earning full points. They then will begin to net on their lowest weekly point total.

A driver with 14 or more weeks in competition may have as their lowest weekly point total a 41, which they earned for finishing tenth or worse in a feature event. If they finish fifth in their next race, they would earn 46 points and knock that 41 point race out of their best 14 and net a total of five points.

The drivers at the top of the point standings are usually the first drivers to hit the 14 week point of the season. Once they begin netting points, drivers behind them in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings that haven’t reached the 14 week mark are still earning full points, and they will begin to climb in the standings.

A driver that wins a NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division race with a car count of eight or more earns 50 points. The points earned drops off one point per position back to tenth spot and 41 points, which is also the point total earned through the rest of the drivers in the main event.

For fields with a car count of less than eight pays 40 points for the win, and drops back one point per position to the seventh spot at 34 points. At any NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division event, if a drivers attempts to compete, but doesn’t start in the main event, they earn 25 points.

A driver’s Weekly Point Average will be used as a gauge in the coming weeks to show just how weak or strong a driver is the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Championship picture. A perfect WPA is 50, which indicates a driver has won every week, or has 14 50-point wins after the 14-week mark in the season. The strongest candidates for the Championship will have WPAs between 46 and 50.

NeSmith Racing officials will begin calculating the WPAs after Week 7 of NeSmith/AR Bodies competition. The question then becomes, will they stay or will they go in the Top 10 once the 14 week mark arrives in the 2014 season?

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS currently leads the NeSmith/AR Bodies standings with 273 points and holds a 13-point lead over Clint Vaughn of Odenville, AL, who has 260 points. Mike Lane of Pace, FL and David Windham of Florala, AL are tied for the third spot with 250 apiece. Due to late results from North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, there has been a change in the point standings from fifth on back since Monday.

James “Scooter” Ware of West Point, MS took a 40-point win on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in the Peay’s Auto Salvage Chevrolet and is fifth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies standings with 245 points. Idom is sixth in the standings with 238 points, and Phillip Haynes of Anniston, AL is seventh with 230 points.

Tyler Hurst of Lineville, AL is another NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock driver on a roll, as he will be looking for his fifth straight win this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving a race car powered by a $3,195 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine. Hurst is currently eighth in the standings with 229 points.

Eddie Brannon of Anniston, AL is ninth with 214 points, and Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies standings with 213 points.

Drivers that race at NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 28.
