CARTERSVILLE, GA – Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS had an up and down Week 8 of NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies competition over the weekend, but when it was said and done, he moved right into contention for the 2014 National Championship.

Idom started off the weekend on Friday night going for his fourth straight win of the season at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS with a $50 bounty on his head. That was collected after he finished second to Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL driving the Sauls Farms Chevrolet. When you consider a second-place finish the down part, it wasn’t such a bad week after all.

On Saturday night, Idom parked his “Throwback” 1957 Chevrolet and stepped into the B&B Racing Chevrolet as a teammate to Jeff Butler of Mendenhall, MS for the $1,000-to-win co-sanctioned race with the Mississippi Street Stock Series at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. Idom then drove to his fifth NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the season with Butler taking the second spot.

The victory moved Idom up to the third spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 331 points after five wins, eight top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in ten races over seven weeks, one less week of competition than the first two drivers in the points chase. That gives Idom a Weekly Point Average of 47.28 out of a possible 50.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS still leads the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 355 points after four top five finishes and five top ten finishes in eight races over eight weeks driving the STR Race Cars Chevrolet. Leftwich has a WPA of 44.37.

David Windham of Florala, AL is second in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 339 points after three top five finishes and six top ten finishes in eight races over eight weeks for a WPA of 42.37. Windham drove the Florala Pharmacy Chevrolet to a third-place finish on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.

Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL is fourth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 304 points. Shaw has one win, five top five finishes and six top ten finishes in seven races over seven weeks driving the Shaw Racing Chevrolet. Shaw had a sixth-place finish on Saturday night in Week 8 competition at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL.

Mike Lane of Pace, FL drove the Lane’s Vinyl Siding Chevrolet to his fourth NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the season on Saturday night at Southern Raceway to land in the fifth spot of the standings with 300 points. In eight races over seven weeks, Lane has four wins, seven top five finishes and eight top ten finishes.

Scooter Ware of West Point, MS did not compete in Week 8 competition, but is sixth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 293 points. Ware has two wins, four top five finishes, and five top ten finishes in eight races over seven weeks of racing driving the Peay’s Auto Salvage Chevrolet.

Kevin Whittington of Brandon, FL may be seventh in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 285 points, but he has the highest WPA among the Top 20 in the points chase at 47.5. Whittington had an “off night” on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway, finishing outside the top ten for the first time this season in the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet. In six races over six weeks Whittington has four wins, four top five finishes and five top ten finishes.

Branden Harris of Molina, FL drove the Coastal Engine and Machine Chevrolet to a second-place finish on Saturday night at Southern Raceway to land in the eighth spot of the standings with 275 points. Harris has one win and five top five finishes in six races over six weeks of NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division competition.

Phillip Haynes of Anniston, AL is ninth in the standings with 269 points after six top five finishes in eight races over seven weeks of NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division competition. Haynes drove the Jeff Owens & Associates to a second-place finish on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Michael Williams of Saucier, MS rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 263 points after three top five finishes and five top ten finishes in seven races over six weeks. Williams finished fourth on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway driving the Williams Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a $3,195 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.

In other NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 8 action, Garrett McDonald of Pace, FL drove the Copperhead Chassis Chevrolet to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway.

Steve Pate of Eastaboga, AL took the win on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Pate Racing Chevrolet. Barry Daniels of Poplar Bluff, MO picked up his second straight NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the season at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO in the Daniels Racing Chevrolet.

Saturday night NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 8 action at Moulton Speedway in Moulton, AL was rained out and North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL did not report their Friday night results.

A total of 171 drivers have earned points in the first eight weeks of NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division competition.
