CARTERSVILLE, GA – Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS opened the 2014 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies season with a 50-point victory on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet. The Week 1 win also gives Whittington the early point lead towards the National Championship.
In other Week 1 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock action, Richie Stephens of Salem, AL drove the Rocketman Race Cars Chevrolet to the win on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Mike Lane of Milton, FL was the winner on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL in the Lane Racing Special.
With the car counts at both Talladega Short Track and Southern Raceway being below eight cars, both Stephens and Lane earned 40 points for their respective victories. The Top 10 finishers on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park will make up the Top 10 in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings after the first of 27 weeks of competition.
Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS finished in the second spot at Whynot Motorsports Park and is second in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock point standings with 49 points. Rick Leverette of Meridian, MS is third in the standings with 48 points after a third-place finish at WMP. Jeremy Idom of Gulfport, MS is fourth with 47 points after finishing fourth at WMP in his “throwback” 1957 Chevrolet.
Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA holds the fifth spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock standings with 46 points after starting at the tail of the field at WMP on Saturday night and finishing fifth. The 2013 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock National Championship Runner-Up Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL starts the 2014 season in the sixth spot with 45 points after a sixth-place finish at WMP.
Jeffrey Walker of Meridian, MS finished seventh at Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night and is seventh in the NeSmith/AR Bodies standings with 44 points. Michael Williams of Saucier, MS is eighth in the standings with 43 points after an eighth-place finish at WMP.
Bill Moffett of Meridian, MS holds down the ninth spot with 42 points after a ninth-place WMP finish, and Tommy Nichols of Meridian, MS rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock standings with 41 points after a WMP tenth-place finish.
