NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS NATIONAL TOUR TO RUN MISSISSIPPI TRIPLE HEADER THIS WEEKEND

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The next three events for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be a Mississippi Triple Header this weekend. The weekend opens at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park on Friday night, then moves to Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS on Saturday night, and the finale will be at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on Sunday night.

The $2,000-to-win Fabgrills 40 Presented By Motorhead Grills will be held at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park on Friday night, as the top NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring drivers will take on the top drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region.

The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour will move to Jackson Motor Speedway on Saturday night for a $2,500-to-win 50 lap main event, and then the series will travel to Magnolia Motor Speedway on Sunday night for a 40-lap $2,000-to-win show.

Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS will begin the three-race weekend in his home state as the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point leader. The 18-year-old Young Gun has 810 points with three top five finishes, and six top ten finishes in 10 starts to hold a 20-point lead over the two-time NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN.

Gentry has 790 points with three top fives, six top tens, and one McLeod Construction Pole Award in ten starts. Two points behind Gentry in the National standings is Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL, who holds the third spot with 788 points based on two top fives, and five top tens in ten starts. Jay Blair of Angie, LA is fourth with 774 points based on four top fives, and six top tens in ten starts.

Derrick Rainey of Powder Spring, GA is fifth in the National standings with 700 points, and has turned in two top fives, three top tens, and two McLeod Construction Pole Awards in 10 starts. Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA holds down the sixth spot with 660 points after two top five finishes, and four top tens in ten starts.

Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL leads a tight three-way battle for the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year honors in 2009 along with two Mississippi drivers. Wilson, who was the 2006 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion, is seventh overall in the National standings with 654 points based on one top five and four top ten finishes in ten starts.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is second in the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year points, and eighth overall in the National standings with 590 points after one top five, and four top tens in nine starts. Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS with 586 points is a close third in the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year standings and ninth overall in the National points with three top tens in ten starts.

Defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA rounds out the top ten in the National points chase with 534 points based on one top five, and three top ten finishes in eight starts.

Other series regulars expected for the three-race weekend include the three Racing Rickmans of Columbus, MS, Papa Eddie Rickman and sons Rick Rickman and Brian Rickman. Another series regular racing in his home state will be Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS.

Youth is also served in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region, a series for non-touring drivers that compete weekly at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, Jackson Motor Speedway, and Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Michael Arnold, another 18-year-old Young Gun from Hattiesburg, MS, leads the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region with 641 points based on six wins, 12 top fives and 15 top tens in 15 starts. Three of Arnold’s six wins have come at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park.

Drivers that are second through eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings, like Arnold, are also Friday night regulars at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park.

Defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Champion at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, is currently second in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region points, with 586 points based on three wins, 12 top fives, and 13 top tens in 14 starts.

Lee owns a West Region win this season at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park. Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS is third in the West Region standings with 577 points based on one win, 11 top fives, and 14 top tens in 14 starts.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS is currently fourth in the West Region standings with 564 points. Keeton has four wins, two of those at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, and 11 top five finishes in 12 starts. Keeton is also the defending champion of the Fabgrills 40 at HMP for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fifth in the West Region standings with 522 points. Barber has three wins, with one victory at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, eight top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 12 starts. Other NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region top eight drivers that are regulars at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park are sixth-place Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS, seventh-place Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS, and eighth-place Jimmy Howell of Laurel, MS.

Hattiesburg Motorsports Park and Fabgrills will be teaming up to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Race fans will be able to purchase chances to win either a Motorhead Grill or a ride at race speed around the track in a two-seat Cruiser race car. The Motorhead Grill is a backyard grill that looks just like a racing engine on an engine stand.

When the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour hits Jackson Motor Speedway on Saturday night, Cliff Williams of Star, MS is the local hot shoe they’ll be gunning for. Williams is currently tenth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 343 points, and all four of his wins this season have come at Jackson Motor Speedway.

Other top Jackson Motor Speedway local favorites expected for the 50-lap $2,500-to-win show are Jarrette Gunn of Brandon, MS, Mike Haralson of Braxton, MS, Zack Owens of Kosciusko, MS and Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS. Gunn is the only other driver to win a NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region race at Jackson Motor Speedway this season.

The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National tour will return to Magnolia Motor Speedway on Sunday night for a 40-lap $2,000-to-win event that was rescheduled from an April 18 rainout. Point leader Cooley is still looking for his first career NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour victory, and “The Mag” would be a good bet for the 18-year-old driver.

Cooley has been traveling to NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region tracks during his off weeks on the National Tour, and he has posted one of his two WRS wins this season at Magnolia Motor Speedway, as well as four of his seven top five finishes.

Cooley is ninth in the West Region standings with 395 points in eight starts and he also has a top five finish at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park. As he has in Weekly Racing Series competition at The Mag, Cooley will also face some tough local talent for the National Touring event.

Evan Ellis of Plantsville, MS has two NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series wins this season at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Seven-time Mississippi State Late Model Champion Mike Boland of Cuba, MS has a NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring win at The Mag, and is looking for his second win of the season.

Other top competitors expected at Magnolia Motor Speedway this Sunday night are Shawn Edwards of Louisville, MS, Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL, Greg Allen of Cherokee, AL, and Chance Inman of Bruce, MS.
