CARTERSVILLE, GA – NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series officials have announced that the National Touring event scheduled for August 14 at Wartburg Speedway in Wartburg, TN has been cancelled and the National Touring event at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN on August 15 will now be a 50-lap $3,000-to-win race.
Wartburg Speedway Promoter Scott Green and NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn mutually agreed to cancel the National Touring event, but made a positive step in looking to the future with a working relationship between the track and the series.
Green and Vaughn agreed to work towards building a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series program at Wartburg Speedway for the 2010 season. This will be conducive for building the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series program in East Tennessee with Wartburg Speedway competing on Friday nights, and Mountain Raceway Park racing on Saturday nights.
The next NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event will be Round 15 of the 2009 season at Mountain Raceway Park. The July 18 40-lap National Touring event at MRP was said by many to be one of the most exciting races at the track in several years with abundant two and three-wide racing.
The July 18 race winner Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA is still excited about that race, not just for the win, but the racing the fans got to see at the historic 4/10-mile clay oval.
“It was great to get the win at The Mountain, but the thing that excited me more than anything was the great racing the fans got to see,” Rainey said. “As drivers, we get just as excited racing like that, as the fans do watching it. I can’t wait to get back there on August 15 to put on another great show for the East Tennessee race fans.”
