NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR JUNE 1

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Clear skies prevailed over Week 9 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series, as all 12 scheduled events were completed. In the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region, point leader Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS drove to his fifth win of the season in the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star on Saturday night at South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point leader Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL, picked up 20 bonus points by competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

Knowles won both events and earned $6,500 over the two days driving the All-Star Graphics Warrior. Knowles has 446 points with seven wins in nine starts, and second-place efforts in the other two races. Knowles is undefeated so far this season at Penton Raceway.

Arnold now has 510 points with five wins, nine top five finishes, and 12 top ten finishes in 12 starts to remain on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region points chase. The 18-year-old driver has a new challenger behind him in two-time NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS.

Keeton picked up his third win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS during the May 9 make-up feature race, and then followed that up with a second-place effort in the regular weekly show driving the Boland Performance Trak-Star. Keeton has 476 points with three wins, and nine top fives in ten starts to trail Arnold by 34 points.

Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region points chase driving the Triple R Painting Rocket with 457 points based on one win, 10 top fives, and 11 top tens in 11 starts. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fourth with 450 points after two wins, nine top fives, and ten top tens in 11 starts driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fifth in the West Region standings with 410 points based on three wins, seven top fives, and nine top tens in nine starts driving the Barber’s Hardware Mastersbilt. Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS is sixth driving the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star with 374 points based on four top fives, and nine top tens in ten starts.

Jimmy Howell of Laurel, MS in the Greg’s High Performance GRT holds down the seventh spot in the West Region standings with 340 points based on one top five, and nine top tens in ten starts. Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS in the D&J Development GRT is eighth with 319 points after two top fives, and eight top tens in nine starts.

NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring point leader Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS is also ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 305 points based on two wins, five top fives, and six top tens in six starts driving the 78 Towing and Recovery Victory Circle.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS in the Cliburn Performance GRT rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 269 points after one top five, and four top tens in eight starts.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action over the weekend, Justin Asplin of Birch Tree, MO picked up his first win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR driving the B&A Lumber GRT.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS drove the Ware Construction Trak-Star to his third win of the season on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, and another three-time winner is Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS who took the win on Saturday night at Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS grabbed his second win of the season on Saturday night in the night-cap at Whynot Motorsports Park driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star. The Friday results from Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS are pending due to a Technical Inspection.

Seven of the top ten drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point standings took advantage of picking up bonus points by participating in the National Touring events at Penton Raceway and East Alabama Motor Speedway.

Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL is second to Knowles in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 412 points based on nine top five finishes in nine starts in The Racing Zone GRT. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is third in the Gar’s Cash Flow Mastersbilt with 351 points based on one top five and seven top tens in ten starts.

Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL holds down the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 340 points based on one win, and seven top five finishes in seven starts driving The Racing Zone GRT.

Josh Henry of Newport, TN moved up to the fifth position in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings after his third win of the season on Saturday night at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN driving the Henry Trucking TNT. Henry has 317 points based on three wins, seven top fives, and eight top tens in eight starts.

Rodgerick Dykes of Smith Station, AL is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 306 points based on one top five, and seven top tens in eight starts driving the Tri-City Machine Works GRT. Jason Deal of Copperhill, TN in the Cougar Fireworks GRT is seventh with 303 points based on one win, and eight top fives in eight starts.

Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL was back in action, competing in double features on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL after five straight rainouts. Elkins used his fifth top five finish of the season to move up to the eighth spot in the East Region standings with 292 points driving the Millennium Mechanical Mastersbilt.

Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 288 points in the RPI GRT based on three top fives, and six top tens in seven starts. Cory Korreckt of Lincoln, AL rounds out the East Region top ten with 272 points based on four top fives in seven starts driving the Mike’s Bikes TSR.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action over the weekend, Jacob Grizzle of Blairsville, GA took the win on Friday night at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA driving the Rick’s Rental Mastersbilt.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL took the May 9 make-up feature race on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the Martin Racing Barry Wright. The 2007 East Region Champion Logan Yates of Delta, AL won the night cap in the Cofield’s Starter and Alternator TSR. It was the second win of the season for both drivers.

The Saturday night results from Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC are pending due to a Technical Inspection.

Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL picked four wins over the weekend to bring their leading total to 16 wins in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge. Mastersbilt Race Cars of Caruthersville, IN had one win to bring their second-place total to 11 wins on the season.

Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN remains in the third spot with nine victories on the season, but the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Champion, GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AL is closing in. GRT is fourth with eight wins on the season, and TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is fifth with four wins.
