CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Racing Gods are finally making some progress in the battle with Mother Nature, as five NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races were completed and four were rained out during Week 11 competition. For some of the tracks that were rained out, they are trying to come up with ideas in an attempt to get some races in.

East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL was rained out on Saturday night in the East Region, but have rescheduled the event for this Tuesday night. Tuesday Night Thunder will feature an “Economic Stimulus Program” in that Grandstand tickets are $5 with $1 hot dogs and $1 drinks. Pit Passes will be $20. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing scheduled for 7 p.m.

With the event being held on Tuesday night, the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series non-Saturday night point system will be in effect. If the car count is ten or more, full points will be awarded. EAMS Promoter Beverly Thompson said if the Tuesday night race is successful, more may be run during the summer in addition to the regularly scheduled Saturday night events.

Penton Raceway in Penton, AL also had their NeSmith Chevrolet WRS event rained out on Friday night, and the race will be rescheduled for July 10. Penton Raceway will award Double WRS Regional Points on June 26. Armbands from the Friday night rained out show may be used on June 26, or July 10.

On the competition side of things, NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point leader Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS has reached the 16 Race mark, and now things will begin to get interesting in the championship battle.

Arnold earned ten bonus points by competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and then had his worse finish of the season on Saturday night at South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS with a 31-point tenth-place finish in the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star.

Arnold has 682 points with six wins, 12 top five finishes, and 16 top ten finishes in 16 starts. Since a driver’s Weekly Racing Series Regional point total is based on his best 16 finishes, the 18-year-old West Region point leader will now begin to net points. In his next race, if Arnold can score 32 points or better, that total would replace the low point night of 31, and he will gain points.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region points chase with 642 after taking the win on Saturday night at South Mississippi Speedway. Lee now has four wins, 13 top fives, and 14 top tens in 15 starts driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT.

If Lee can earn 40 points in his next start, and Arnold fails to net any points, the two drivers would be tied for the point lead. Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS is third in the West Region points with 625 based on one win, 12 top fives and 15 top tens in 15 starts. Brown also has one more start to earn full points in the Triple R Painting Rocket.

The man in the catbird’s seat could be two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS. Keeton is fourth in the West Region standings with 599 points based on four wins, and 11 top fives in just 13 starts. Keeton still has three races to earn full points in the Boland Performance Trak-Star.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fifth in the West Region standing with 576 points based on three wins, nine top fives, and 12 top tens in 13 starts in the Barber’s Hardware Mastersbilt. Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS is sixth with 457 points after five top fives, and ten top tens in 12 starts in the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star.

Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS is seventh with 420 points based on two fives and ten top tens in 12 starts in the D&J Development GRT, and Jimmy Howell of Laurel, MS is eighth with 408 points based on one top five and 11 top tens in 12 starts driving the Greg’s High Performance GRT.

NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point leader Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 395 points. Cooley has two wins, seven top fives and eight top tens in eight starts driving the 78 Towing and Recovery Victory Circle.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 353 points based on four wins and six top fives in eight starts driving the Ware Construction Trak-Star.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action over the weekend, a pair of drivers picked up their wins of the season.

Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS drove the Tuxedo Auto GRT to the win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, and Shawn Edwards of Louisville, MS drove the Montgomery Farms Trak-Star to victory on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS. The Friday night race at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR was rained out.

Jacob Grizzle of Blairsville, GA remains undefeated in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region competition, as he picked up his third win in three East Region starts on Saturday night at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC driving the Rick’s Rental Mastersbilt.

Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 494 points based on seven wins and three second-place finishes in ten starts aboard the All-Star Graphics Warrior.

Jason Deal of Copperhill, TN in the Cougar Fireworks GRT moved up to the second spot with 455 points based on two wins, and 12 top fives in 12 starts. Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL is third with 452 points after nine top fives and ten top tens in ten starts driving The Racing Zone GRT. Jacob Anderson of Murphy, NC is fourth with 414 points based on two wins, nine top fives, and ten top tens in 11 starts.

Josh Henry of Newport, TN is fifth in the East Region points chase after driving the Henry Trucking TNT to his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN. Henry has 400 points with four wins, nine top fives, and ten top tens in ten starts.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is sixth with 381 points based on one top five and seven top tens in 11 starts driving the Gar’s Cash Flow Mastersbilt. Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL in The Racing Zone GRT is seventh with 370 after one win and seven top fives in eight starts.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR grabbed two wins over the weekend to close in from the third spot with 13 victories.
