NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR JUNE 22

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 12 of the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season saw five first-time winners and a tightening up of the point standings in the West Region, as several of the frontrunners in the region have reached the 16-race mark and are now netting points. A driver’s top 16 finishes count towards their season total.

Four of the first-time 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series winners came in the East Region. Veteran Dana Eiland of Salem, AL took his first win of the season on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL driving the Andy’s Auto Parts GRT.

Second-generation driver Chris Ritchey of Maryville, TN drove the Stanley Best Heating and Air GRT to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, and Kevin Sutton of Morganton, GA was a first-time winner on Saturday night at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC driving the Tony’s Garbage Service Rayburn.

Larry Harrod of Plains, GA bagged his first win of the season on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL driving the Q107.3 Rocket. The first-time winner in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region was Randy Boyd of Marion, MS on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Michael Harris Construction Trak-Star.

East Alabama Motor Speedway will begin a series of Tuesday night NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region events this week with other races scheduled for June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28, and August 4. The Tuesday Night Thunder events at EAMS will feature $5 Grandstand tickets, $20 Pit Passes, $1 Hot Dogs, and $1 Soft Drinks.

Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 578 points based on seven wins, 11 top five finishes, and 12 top ten finishes based on 12 starts driving the All-Star Graphics Warrior. Knowles has a 28-point lead over Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL.

Dudley, who won last Tuesday night’s event at EAMS in The Racing Zone GRT, has 550 points based on one win, 11 top fives, and 12 top ten finishes in 12 starts. Jason Deal of Copperhill, TN is third in the East Region standings with 492 points after driving the Cougar Fireworks GRT to two wins, and 13 top fives finishes in 13 starts.

Jacob Anderson of Murphy, NC is fourth in the East Region standings with 490 points based on two wins, 11 top fives, and 12 top tens in 13 starts driving the Jacob Anderson Company GRT. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is fifth with 479 points based on one top five and nine top tens in 14 starts driving the Gar’s Cash Flow Mastersbilt.

Josh Henry of Newport, TN is sixth in the East Region standings with 438 points driving the Henry Trucking TNT to four wins, ten top fives and 11 top tens in 11 starts. Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL is seventh with 416 points based on one win and eight top fives in nine starts driving The Racing Zone GRT.

Rodgerick Dykes of Smith Station, AL is eighth in the East Region standings with 412 points after one top five and ten top ten finishes in 11 starts driving the Tri-City Machine Works GRT. Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL is ninth with 395 points based on five top fives and nine top tens in 10 starts driving RPI GRT.

Brian Kinnersley of Blairsville, GA picked up his sixth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region win of the season on Friday night at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA driving the Arrant Spreader Service Mastersbilt. That moved Kinnersley up to the tenth spot in the East Region standings with six wins, eight top fives, and ten top tens in ten starts.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action on Saturday night, defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL took his fourth win of the season at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Martin Racing Barry Wright.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS grabbed his seventh NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS driving the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star.

Arnold continues to lead the West Region standings with 713 points based on his best 16 finishes with seven wins, 14 top five finishes and 18 top ten finishes in 18 starts. Lumberton, MS drivers Shannon Lee and Tracy Brown are second and third respectively in the West Region standings, and both drivers have reached the 16-race mark.

Lee has 698 points based on his best 16 finishes with four wins, 15 top fives, and 16 top tens in 17 starts in the Billy Riels Racing GRT. Brown has 676 points based on his best 16 finishes with one win, 14 top fives, and 15 top tens in 17 starts driving the Triple R Painting Rocket.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS is fourth with 673 points after driving the Boland Performance Trak-Star to four wins, 12 top fives and 13 top tens in 15 starts.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fifth with 659 points after driving the Barber’s Hardware Mastersbilt to his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS.

Barber has four wins, ten top fives, and 14 top tens in 15 starts. Both Keeton and Barber have one more race to earn full points and then they will begin netting points after they reach the 16-start mark. A good finish by both drivers this coming weekend could really tighten up the West Region point standings.

Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS holds down the sixth spot in the West Region standings with 495 points based on five top fives and 11 top tens in 13 starts driving the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star. Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS is seventh with 486 points driving the D&J Development GRT to two top fives and 12 top tens in 14 starts.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point leader Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS drove his 78 Towing and Recovery Victory Circle to his third Weekly Racing Series West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS.

Cooley is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 437 points based on three wins, eight top fives and nine top tens in nine starts. Jimmy Howell of Laurel, MS is ninth with 408 points after driving the Greg’s High Performance GRT to one top five finish and 11 top ten finishes in 12 starts.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS took his fifth win of the season on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS driving the Ware Construction Trak Star. Williams rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 393 points based on five wins and seven top five finishes in nine starts.

In the coming weeks, Cooley and Williams will be two drivers to watch in the West Region standings, as both drivers still have seven races to earn full points. Two other drivers to keep an eye on are Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS and the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS.

Beckwith is just outside the Top 10 in the West Region standings in the 11th spot with 376 points based on four wins and seven top five finishes in nine starts driving the Hi Grade Farm Supply Rocket.

McDuffie is 16th in the West Region standings with 320 points after driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star to two wins, six top fives and seven top tens in just seven starts. Last season, McDuffie didn’t appear in the top of West Region points page until the last few weeks of the season.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action over the weekend, Jason Wilkey of Batesville, AR drove the Dodd’s Signs Warrior to his third win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR.

Although he is 21st in the West Region standings, Wilkey has a 40.6 per event point average with 284 points in seven starts. He is also a driver to watch in the coming weeks as the per event point averages come into play. To date, there are 13 drivers with seven or more starts that have per event point averages above 40 points.

The points per race averages will be outlined in more detail in Thursday’s NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 13 Preview.

Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL once again led the way in Week 11 with three wins to extend their lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge with a total of 24 wins. Mastersbilt Race Cars of Caruthersville, IN had two wins this week to remain second with a total of 16 wins.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR also had two wins this week to remain in the third spot with 15 total wins, and Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN had one win this week, and are fourth overall with 11 total wins.

TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is fifth with five wins, and Sutton’s victory on Saturday night at Tri-County Race Track gave C.J. Rayburn Race Cars of Whiteland, IN its first win of the season to hold down the sixth spot.
