NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR OCTOBER 5

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS put the icing on his third championship cake with his tenth win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Boland Performance Trak-Star in the final week of the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS season.

After the race, the GM Performance engine in Keeton’s race car was protested by Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, who is the second-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings. The engine was pulled from Keeton’s car and impounded at the track.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Technical Director Tim Sims and Whynot Motorsports Park Promoter Rodney Wing inspected the engine on Monday, and determined that it was legal.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS secured the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings with his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT.

The win by Lee broke a tie for the third spot with Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS, who ended up fourth in the West Region standings. Cooley leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point standings.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS drove the Ware Construction Trak-Star to his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. Williams will finish sixth in the West Region standings behind Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA. Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS will take the seventh spot.

Two drivers with top ten finishes on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park raced their way into the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings, knocking out Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS and Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS.

Randy Boyd of Marion, MS took the fourth spot at WMP and will finish eighth in the West Region standings, and Evan Ellis of Plantsville, MS finished seventh at WMP to tie Chase Washington of Houlka, MS for the ninth spot. Ellis will take the ninth spot, as he had three wins this season to Washington’s one win.

The top ten drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West and East Regions, and the top ten drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Northern Challenge Series will be eligible to compete in Race of Regions, as a part of the 4th Annual NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Fall Nationals at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 27-28.

Representing the East Region will be 2009 Champion Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL, Larry Harrod of Plains, GA, the 2008 East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL, Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL, Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL, and Jerry Goodwin of Wilsonville, AL.

The top ten drivers representing the NeSmith Chevrolet Northern Challenge Series will be Champion Rick Stout of Stanton, MI, Roger Wing of Middleton, MI, Scott Ehlert of Crystal, MI, Trever Sloan of Saranac, MI, Mike Nugent of Belding, MI, John McClure of Clarksville, MI, Kris Patterson of St. Johns, MI, Bry Sloan of Lowell, MI, Billy Trueblood of Ionia, MI, and Gary Vandermark of Lowell, MI.

The top ten drivers, excluding any top ten Regional drivers, from each NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series track will receive an invitation to the Fall Nationals for an opportunity to compete in a $2,000-to-win 40-lap event on November 27 at Columbus Speedway. The track champion from each track will also be eligible to compete in the Race of Champions.

The preliminaries for the Race of Regions and the Race of Champions will take place on November 27, and the Race of Regions and the Race of Champions will be run on November 28 at Columbus Speedway as a part of a separate non-points race for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS open to all drivers. A complete list of the Fall Nationals invitees will be announced later this week.

Wins by Keeton and Williams gave the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturer Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL their 50th and 51st wins of the season.

Lee gave three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturer Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR its 43rd win of the season. GRT will finish second in the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturer Challenge points.

Mastersbilt Race Cars of Crothersville, IN will finish third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge with 23 wins. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth with 17 wins, TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is fifth with eight wins, and C.J. Rayburn Race Cars of Whiteland, IN is sixth with one win.
