CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 20 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 27-week season will feature 12 races at 11 different tracks in seven different states. While Chris Holley of Dayton, TX holds a healthy lead in the point standings, several drivers are still mathematically alive to challenge for the $10,000 National Championship.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 competition begins on Friday night with three events scheduled for Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 action will be highlighted by $750-to-win Double Feature Races at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN. The first feature race will be a Week 14 Make-Up Race, and the second feature race will be a Week 20 points race.

Also in action on Saturday night with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 events will be Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Holley sits atop the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a 14 week total of 698 points, two points away from a “Perfect Season” of 700 points. Holley needs to net on two 49-point second-place finishes with two 50-point wins over the over the remaining eight weeks of the season to become the second driver in the history of the series to reach the 700 point mark.

For Week 20, Holley may or may not compete, as his home track and the site of all 12 of his wins this season, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, is giving the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models the week off. So it will be at least another three weeks until Holley could pull off the perfect season.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS was the first driver to turn in a “Perfect Season” last year on his way to the $10,000 National Championship. There is one series record Daspit is trying to keep for himself, and that is consecutive wins in a season.

Daspit turned in seven straight wins in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition last season to set the series record. Holley won his first six races this year, until he had to settle for his first of two second-place finishes this season. And who stopped Holley’s streak at six wins? None other than Daspit made the trip to Battleground Speedway earlier this season and take the win. Holley has a new streak going and he has won four in a row.

So while Holley tries to clinch the championship in the next few weeks, there are still ten more weeks, with double feature races currently on the schedule, for drivers to post 50-point wins. Any driver with three or more 50-point wins still has a mathematical chance to beat Holley for the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship.

In addition to the top spot on the points list, the race for the Top 10 Points Fund paying spots in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings is still wide open over the final eight weeks of the 2014 season.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and Daniel Bridgmon are tied for the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, as each driver has a best 14 week total of 678 points. Both drivers will be trying to net on 46s, which is the lowest weekly point total among their best 14. Both drivers also have four wins this season.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 670 points with four wins and will be trying to net on a 43. Daspit is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 668 points, six wins, and he will be trying to net on a 42.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL has four wins this season and is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 661 points. The 12-year-old sensation will be trying to net on a 42. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is seventh in the standings with a best 14 week total of 634 points, and he will be trying to net on a 41.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS is eighth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 629 points, and he will be trying to net on a 25. Henry Pullen of Pittsboro, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 627, and he will be trying to net on a 41.

There is a three-way tie for the tenth and final points fund paying spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings going into Week 20 competition among Heath Minor of Ralph, AL, Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN, and Mike Davenport of Danbury, TX. Each driver has 621 points.

Minor and Beeler each have one more week to earn full points. Beeler’s home track is 411 Motor Speedway, so he will race for full points in the first race, and then try to net on a 41. Both Minor and Beeler could possibly earn 59 points this Saturday night with a pair of 50-point wins, should Minor also decide to take in the 411 Motor Speedway Double Features.

That would bring one of their season totals to 680 points and possibly rocket one of them up to the second spot in the point standings. Minor has six wins this season and Beeler has three. Davenport has reached the 14 week mark of his 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season and will try to net on a 41.

The cream is beginning to rise to the top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, as gauged by the Weekly Point Averages, or WPAs, of the drivers in the Top 20 of the point standings.

Point leader Holley has the number one WPA at 49.86 out of a possible 50. Gauldin and Bridgmon, who are tied for the second spot in points, also share the second highest WPA at 48.43. Lee, who is fourth in points, has the fourth highest WPA at 47.71. Minor and Beeler, who are part of a three-way tie for tenth in the point standings, also share the fifth highest WPA at 47.77.

Daspit is fifth in the point standings and has the seventh highest WPA at 47.71. Skinner is sixth in the points chase and now has the tenth highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings at 47.21,

There are two drivers in the second ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings that are among the Top 10 drivers on the WPA list. Ryan King of Seymour, TN is 13[sup]th[/sup] in the standings with 620 points, five wins, and has the eighth highest WPA at 47.69. Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is 14[sup]th[/sup] in the standings with 618 points, four wins, and has the ninth highest WPA at 47.54.

King is in the same position as Beeler, in having one more week to earn full points and then net on a 43 in Double Features at his home track, 411 Motor Speedway. King could earn a possible 57 points and bring his season total up to 677 points and into the Top 5 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
