CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 22 of the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will have several drivers trying to make decisions on their best point earning opportunities. All drivers in the top ten of both the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East and West Regions are either at or above the 16 race mark.

Those drivers now can only net points trying to improve on their best 16 finish point totals by try to earn more points that their lowest point race in their current best 16. Drivers can also earn up to 40 bonus points by competing in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events.

A driver can earn ten bonus points by competing in a NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring event. The National Tour has two races this weekend on Friday night and Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Several drivers in both the East and West Regions could earn more points by competing in the National Touring events than they could net by running at their weekly track.

Looking at the top five drivers in the East Region, point leader Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL can still earn 20 points by competing at National events, and the best he could net at a Weekly Racing Series event this weekend is ten points with a full field of 15 or more cars.

The East Region second-place driver Larry Harrod of Plains, GA can still earn 30 bonus points, and the best he could net this weekend is 18 points. Third-place Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL can still earn 30 bonus points, and the best he could net this weekend is 20 points. Fourth-place Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL can still earn 20 bonus points, but he could net up to 30 points this weekend.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL can still earn all 40 of his bonus points, but he is running out of opportunities to claim those points. If Martin can win the double-points race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night with a full field, he can net 40 points.

Along with the Talladega Short Track race, other Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet East Region events will be held at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, and Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion and current point leader Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS has already earned his 40 bonus points, and the best he can net in West Region action this weekend by winning races with car counts of 15 or more is 30 points.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region and he can still earn 20 bonus points. The best Arnold can net this weekend is 20 points. Third-place Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS can still 20 bonus points at National Touring events, and the best he could net this weekend is 26 points.

Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS is fourth in the West Region points, and he has earned his 40 bonus points. If Cooley ran NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region events this weekend, the best he could net would be 45 points. It’s a pretty good bet that Cooley will be at Whynot Motorsports Park this weekend, as he leads the National Touring points chase.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings, and he can still earn ten bonus points. The best Barber could net this weekend at WRS events is 48 points.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Regions events this weekend are scheduled for Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR this Friday night, while Saturday night races are scheduled for Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS. Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will host a double-points event on Sunday night.
