CARTERSVILLE, GA – All eyes will be on Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX for NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 24 competition. Chris Holley of Dayton, TX will be looking for his 16[sup]th[/sup] win of the season in an effort to clinch the $10,000 National Championship, barring any further Double Features that could be scheduled in the last three weeks in the season.

Holley will also be going for two other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season records this Saturday night that are currently owned by the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS. A 16[sup]th[/sup] win for Holley will be a record for number of 50-point wins in a single season, and it would be his eighth straight, another series record.

Although Holley has a “Perfect Season” with a best 14 week total of 700 points represented by 14 fifty-point wins, along with another win in the tie-breaker bank, the second-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS, still has a mathematical chance to reach the 700 point mark.

There are currently five opportunities to earn NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points until the season ends on September 28 with four weeks left in the season, and one Double Feature opportunity on September 13 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

If Holley fails to capture his 16[sup]th[/sup] win of the season and Palasini wins all five races available to him, the two drivers would end up in a tie with 700 points and 15 fifty point wins. The next tie-breaker would be second-place finishes. To date, Holley and Palasini each have two. That would take the tie-breaker to third-place finishes, and Palasini has two and Holley has none.

If Palasini fails to win one of the five opportunities left to him through the end of the season, Holley will clinch the title, barring any further Double Feature events. Palasini will more than likely be at his home track Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS this Saturday night, but don’t count him out taking a little trip this weekend.

Palasini was a guest on Tuesday night’s NeSmith Race Report radio show, and he said he was loaded up last Friday night to take a trip to Battleground Speedway and go head-to-head with Holley. Weather concerns kept him at Greenville Speedway where he won on Sunday night to stay alive in the title hunt.

A Texas trip could serve two purposes for Palasini. If he wins, he stays alive in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series championship battle, and even more importantly, he could keep Holley from taking that 16[sup]th[/sup] title-clinching win.

Along with the championship contender watches this Saturday night at Battleground Speedway and Greenville Speedway, there are six other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 24 races that will all play an important role in who will place in the Top 10 points fund-paying positions of the point standings and earn a seat at the banquet table in Dawsonville, GA.

Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will host a Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event. Other Saturday night Week 24 races will be held at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN with a $1,000-to-win race, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL with a race co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series, Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, and St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA.

Holley leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a perfect 14 week total of 700 points. Palasini is second in the standings with a best 14 week total of 691 points. Palasini will by trying to net three points in Week 24 competition with a 50-point win replacing the lowest of his best weekly totals of 47.

Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 689 points. Smith’s home track, Salina Speedway in Salina, KS is off this week, and the next closest sanctioned track is eight hours away for him to net on a 47.

The fourth and fifth-place drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings will be at 411 Motor Speedway this Saturday night to see if they can pass Smith for the third spot, and possibly get closer to Palasini for the second spot. Ryan King of Seymour, TN is fourth with a best 14 week total of 686 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46. Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN is fifth with a best 14 week total of 685 points, and he will be looking to net on a 47.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 684 points. Arnold will most likely be at his home track, Hattiesburg Speedway, on Friday night to try and net on a 44.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS are tied for seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, as each driver has a best 14 week total of 682 points. Gauldin will be trying to net on a 46, and Bridgmon will be looking to net on a 47 in Week 24 competition.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series home tracks for both drivers, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL for Gauldin and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS for Bridgmon, are off this week, so it will be interesting to see where these two drivers end up this weekend. Gauldin did travel to 411 Motor Speedway last Saturday night where he finished fifth.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 679 points. Lee will more than likely be trying to net on a 46 at Hattiesburg Speedway on Friday night and St. Tammany Raceway on Saturday night.

Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 678 points. His home track, Salina Speedway is off this week, but Kratzer has announced he has a “Plan B” to try and net on a 47.

Kratzer was also a guest on the Tuesday night NeSmith Race Report, and he said he had to see just how tough Chris Holley is at Battleground Speedway. Kratzer will be making the 12 hour trip from Central Kansas to Highlands, TX this Saturday night to go head-to-head with Chris Holley at Battleground Speedway.

Daspit has made that trip and taken that challenge twice this season. Daspit beat Holley at Battleground Speedway on May 24, and Holley beat Daspit on his second trip to Battleground Speedway on July 26. Could the rubber match be forthcoming?

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
