NeSMITH CHEVROLET WRS HIGHLIGHTS TRACK CHAMPIONS THIS WEEKEND IN COLUMBUS, MS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will highlight its Track Champions this weekend at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS as a part of the 3rd Annual Fall Nationals. The Race of Champions will be one of four races held for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series this Friday and Saturday at Columbus Speedway.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has invited 150 Weekly Racing Series drivers from across the country to compete in the Fall Nationals. All 150 drivers are eligible to compete in the 30-lap $2,000-to-win Fall Nationals Invitational Race. The Top 10 drivers from the West and East Regions will compete in the 20-lap $500-to-win Race of Regions.

The Fall Nationals Invitational Race will be run on Friday along with the Race of Champions and Race of Regions heat races. The Race of Champions and the Race of Regions will be run on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, the final points race for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be run with a 40-lap $3,000-to-win main event that will be open to all competitors with time trials, B-main races being held to fill the field for the feature race.

Seven NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series invitees will be eligible to compete in three Fall Nationals events, having won a track championship to earn a seat in the Race of Champions starting field, and placing in the Top 10 of the point standings in one of two Weekly Racing Series Regions to earn a starting spot in the Race of Regions.

Adam Martin of Talladega, AL is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion, and the Track Champion at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Martin will pick up a $3,000 cash award, a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, and a new GRT Chassis at the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Annual Awards Banquet on December 10 in Tampa, FL.

Martin competed in 20 races in 2008 at Talladega Short Track and turned in eight wins, 17 top five finishes, and 19 top ten finishes.

Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Championship Runner-Up, and also picked up a pair of Track Championships at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

At Penton Raceway, Stephens had 13 starts with six wins, 11 top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes. At East Alabama Motor Speedway, Stephens visited victory lane seven times with 11 top five finishes, and 14 top ten finishes in 14 starts.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is also a two-track champion with 2008 titles at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS and A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA. Lee finished fifth in the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region.

Lee competed in 13 races at Southern Speedway with five wins and 13 top five finishes. At A1 Raceway, Lee posted two wins, 12 top five finishes, and 14 top ten finishes in 14 starts.

Tony Shelton of Columbus, MS is another two track champion, topping the 2008 point standings at Columbus Speedway, and across town at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. Shelton finished eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings.

Shelton lined up for 12 starts at Columbus Speedway with seven top five finishes and 10 top ten finishes. Shelton turned in five top five and five top ten finishes in six starts at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is the 2008 Whynot Motor Speedway Track Champion, and finished sixth in the Weekly Racing Series West Region. In 15 starts at WMP, Murphy had 12 top five and 12 top ten finishes.

Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Champion at Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL, and finished seventh in the Weekly Racing Series East Region. Hall has one win at GVS with seven top five finishes, and 10 top ten finishes in 11 starts.

Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Champion at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, and finished seventh in the Weekly Racing Series West Region. In 24 starts at Flomaton Speedway, Huss had three wins, 22 top five finishes, and 22 top ten finishes.

Other drivers that have earned a starting spot in the Race of Champions are Jim Moon of Zionsville, IN, Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA, and Silas Martin of Columbia, MS.

Moon is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Indiana State Champion, having competed in ten races at three tracks. Moon posted two wins at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, IN, and also turned in five top five finishes, and 10 top ten finishes.

Kay is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Champion at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL. Kay visited the FPMS victory lane twice in 2008, and also had seven top five finishes and 10 top ten finishes in ten starts.

Silas Martin captured the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Championship at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS. Silas Martin competed in nine races with six top five finishes, and nine top ten finishes.

Columbus Speedway will host an open practice session on Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On both Friday and Saturday at Columbus Speedway, gates open at 10 a.m. with the drivers meeting at 1 p.m. and preliminary action scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. After the preliminary events, the track will be reworked, and the evening session with main events is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Race of Champions and Race of Regions heat races will be run on Friday during the afternoon session. The NeSmith Chevrolet Fall Nationals qualifying, B-Mains and Feature Race will be run during the Friday night session. The Race of Champions and Race of Regions will be run during the Saturday afternoon session.

Round 16 of the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring Series will be run during the Saturday night session with qualifying, B-Mains, and the 40-lap $3,000-to-win main event will be run during the Saturday night session.

Columbus Speedway is located seven miles east of Columbus, MS 1.5 miles north of U.S. Highway 82. Takes Stokes Road, 1.5 miles north of U.S. Highway 82, then turn right on Lacy Road.
