CARTERSVILLE, GA – The road to the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series $10,000 Championship begins this Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS with a 40-lap $2,000-to-win Promoters Racing Organization event. The PRO Series is the Mississippi portion of the four-state NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series.

The PRO Series Columbus Speedway race on Saturday night is the first of 11 races in which drivers can compete for not only the PRO Series point fund, but if they are NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series members, they can also compete for the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series point fund that pays $10,000 to the champion and pays back the top ten point positions.

The NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series will be announcing events scheduled for Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee in the coming days, in addition to the 11 PRO Series events. Drivers can compete at any series event in any state to earn points. A driver’s best ten finishes will count towards their NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series point total.

The rules for the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series allow just about any dirt late model race car and engine combination that includes open all-aluminum open engines, Spec engines, the all-aluminum GM Performance CT525 Spec engine, and the GM Performance 604 and 602 sealed crate engines. A level playing field is created using different weights and spoiler heights for each engine.

If a member driver wins the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series Championship using the GM Performance CT525 Spec Engine with a NeSmith Chevrolet tag in 75 percent of the races, they will pick up a $5,000 Loyalty Bonus from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA to make the title worth $15,000.

To win the NeSmith Chevrolet $5,000 Loyalty Bonus, the GM Performance CT525 Spec Engine must be purchased at and tagged by NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA, who has the engine in stock, dressed out, and ready to race with everything except the carburetor for $10,100 with free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast. NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn along with promoters Johnny Stokes, Mike Mauldin, and Rodney Wing got together to develop a dirt late model series that is inclusive to all types of dirt late model engines, and affordable for promoters, racers and fans.

“Super dirt late model racing is currently in a tough spot in today’s economical environment in that promoters cannot afford to run them weekly without asking the fans to pay a higher ticket price to pay their purse,” NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series President of Operations and Communications Roby Helm said. “Many tracks do not have enough seats to justify running a big $10,000-to-win show without taking a huge gamble that they will fill those seats to pay the purse.”

Helm said the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series satisfies the economic balance necessary to give weekly tracks an affordable super dirt late model show, and give competitors that can’t afford a $30,000 all-aluminum open engine a chance to compete using an engine that costs a third of the price or less, with a purse that won’t break the bank.

“A NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series event cost a promoter $10,000 to $20,000 depending on the type of show they put on,” Helm said. “This gives the promoter an opportunity to give their fans super dirt late models at an affordable price, with a fair purse and a generous point fund for the competitors to race for.”

The NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series rules can be found on the PRO Dirt Car Series web site at www.prodirtcarseries.com. Columbus Speedway will host an open practice session on Friday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday, the drivers meeting is set for 5 p.m. with racing scheduled for 6 p.m.

Columbus Speedway is located seven miles east of Columbus, MS 1.5 miles north of U.S. Highway 82. Take Stokes Road, 1.5 miles north of U.S. Highway 82, then turn right on Lacy Road. The track will be ¾-mile on the left. For more information call 662-241-5004, or visit the track web site at www.columbusspeedway.net.
