Concord, NC – December 7th, 2016 – DIRTcar Racing, in conjunction with Hoosier Racing Tire, announced that DIRTcar UMP Modified division drivers will have an improved tread pattern, renamed compounds, and less siping to do in the 2017 season.
After three years of field testing, DIRTcar and Hoosier officials are pleased to release redesigned versions of the current A40S and H40 compounded tires. The new M-30S and M-60 tire will become the only available tires for the DIRTcar UMP Modified division beginning at or near March 1[sup]st[/sup], 2017. The new tires will feature the same construction and compounds as the existing tires, but will utilize an updated Chain Link tread pattern and more logical compound names. No grooving will be allowed on any tire, and siping of the new tires will only be legal with the M-60 tire.
“Throughout our testing, it has been everyone’s goal to provide our customers with fewer choices, less work, and a better overall product,” said Hoosier Racing Tire Product Manager Shanon Rush. “The new tread design, a more streamlined, logical naming system, and no siping of the softer tire should address many of the concerns the teams had voiced. “
As an additional benefit, because the construction and compounds of the tires will not change, DIRTcar UMP can now allow all existing A-40S and H-40 tires to be run out throughout the entire 2017 campaign.
“Hoosier provided us with several options, but in the end, we definitely wanted tires best suited for all of our sanctioned tracks, and to protect all of our customers who have existing inventory,” explained DIRTcar UMP Series Director Sam Driggers. “We believe these changes accomplish those goals.”
All 2017 DIRTcar sanctioned events in Florida will be run under the existing A-40S and H-40 tire rules from 2016. The new M-30S and M-60 tires will be released at or near March 1[sup]st[/sup], once all existing inventory is depleted.
Samples of the New M-30S and M-60 tires will be on display at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show on December 8[sup]th[/sup]-10[sup]th[/sup] in both the DIRTcar UMP and Hoosier Racing Tire booths.

Once again, another year and more questions following tires. Instead of the old tire rule of allowing 3 tire choices, now you have 4 choices! Until stock runs out that is.

This should be better for the racer once we cycle through the old stock. The depth of the tread should allow you to get more laps on these tires than the A40S pattern as they were still decent right up until the outside edges were gone. We found the A40S needed a heat cycle before it really was ready to get abused. I assume this will still be the case with the new tire.

Stop drinking the kool aid. UMP and the purple Mafia have only one goal......to get racers to buy more tires. They are no different than modern day drug dealers!

1-if the new tire is superior to existing stock, it won't matter that you can run what you own until they are gone. Anyone who wants to win will have to buy the new tire. First guy to win a couple features on that "new design" and every racer will be saying they got beat by that tire, now they have to go buy new tires and toss the old ones to be competitive. Been there done that.............

2-Just because it has a deeper tread depth doesn't mean it won't wear faster.

3-Racers have been asking for "fewer choices" when it comes to tires for at least 10 years or more. They want 1 tire, a hard tire that lasts a long time, to make the playing field level on tires and eliminate a huge cost in their racing budget. So Hoosier is really pushing the limit of credibility when they say they are trying to listen to the racers. If they listened to the racers, they would be announcing the introduction of the "SUPER H guaranteed to last a season" tire, not more of the same under a different label. So don't expect them to listen to closely to racers, ever.

If they even wanted to do THIS right, they would be announcing this tire for the 2018 season and telling everyone now to start planning their tire purchases for this year accordingly so as to run out and be in need of tires when the rule changes, rather than introducing it now to create competition within their own product range.

Hoosier and UMP are going to get their money. Tires have always been one of their biggest scams. UMP has always mandated the worse tire of any sanction. If you think they are going to do anything that would decrease sales and take money out of their pockets. You are hopelessly blind.

Good post, totally agree.

I heard the new tire was a half a second faster-- the fast guys will still be the fast guys-at least us bottom feeders for used rubber will have plenty to pick from- UMP could have said NEW TIRE or nothing to start 2017 --NOW,,lets talk bout the NEW super rules ,,OH.shut up Lenny

Until UMP feels the heat and I mean real heat from another sanction on their territory racers in their territory will continue being shafted. Just like in any business competition is a good thing for the consumer. A monopoly is only good for the one. Its sad this sanction crap has consumed our sport. Used to the track promoter made some money off the backs of the racer as they should. Now every Tom Dick and Harry has a finger in the pie.

One way we could fight this is to have every racer or a majority of them to show up on a none Hoosier tire. If enough people do it they will have to let us run because if they turn down all the cars they won't have a show to put on. That way they have to listen to us.

Some parts of this country will have 6 compounds of Emods to choose from. From the A Mods on down to a street stock. (A-D-A40s-H-D30-D60) Some tracks only require a Emod tire. That is complete nonsense. This was the perfect time for Hoosier and UMP to say only the D60. One compound. They blew it yet again.

Crazy idea here: local b-mod tracks should NOT allow this new tire until June or July on b-mods. Why? it is an economy class. Driver A with $1,200 worth of tire money should not have an advantage over Driver B that has 345 really nice used A, A/S and H tires already. By June or July Driver B could probably burn some of his existing used tires up, have money for a few NEW tires and most likely scrounged up some used ones and Driver A will still have money for new tires. JMO.

<~~~~~standing over there waving both my arms..."Um, anybody wanting to get rid of some still new, or 1 to 2 nights mildly used A or AS, either 26.5 but preferably 27.5's, please contact me...please!"

I have several new unused tired and others that were ran one night or only a heat race. For sale now

Funny! American Racer's have 1 compound, 2 sizes, last forever & are cheaper. Who is in bed with who? Sr

The fast guys get 2 features then swap tires to heats and spend at least one to two nights a week cutting and siping American racers. And always put new rfs on when new rears go on. I understand you all are unhappy with ump but usra is no different. Nothing gets done about your issues at sanctioned tracks, tech is horrible, constantly going through new tires, and it takes a bottomless money pit to win. Harder tires cost more money to hookup. Humboldt, kansas, coffeyville, and salina, Oklahoma are nascar sanctioned this year.

Rusty Griffaw brought up a great point in his class Saturday. If we were to go to all hard tires, were just switching problems. If were all on hard tires, ppl will be using softeners/grip agents. Not to say that ppl dont use them already, but it would likely spread like wildfire.

Me personally, im cautiously optimistic with this new tire. We already know what to expect out of this tire, so in theory we shouldnt have too many surprises coming this spring. What worries me is that this tire is not going to be available for speedweeks. Id be interested to hear how the tire holds up against a heavy sand compound like Volusia, and if the tire has tendency to burn the edges out fast when the car has a bunch of side force like you see at pevely. Were being told this tire is basically the same thing weve had, but i think weve heard that before too.
