(Lifestyle Festival Makes First Trip To Gateway )
Madison, IL - Gateway International Raceway's Championship Drag Strip will host the
NHRA Sport Compact Series on August 20-22.
Now in its fourth season, the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series
schedule will again contest 10 events in 2004. The series features This is the first year
that Gateway will host the Sport Compact Series where racers compete for world
championships in five classes: Pro RWD (rear-wheel drive); Pro FWD (front-wheel
drive); Modified (rear-wheel drive); Hot Rod (front-wheel drive); All-Motor (no power
adders). Last year, the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series consistently
featured the biggest names in professional sport compact drag racing. The program will
start on Friday evening with a Test and Tune for all professional and amateur racers. The
qualifying rounds begin on Saturday at 2 pm, and the Sunday elimination rounds begin at
1:30 pm.
The weekend is loaded with events starting on Saturday from 7-8:30 pm when a new
Miss Gateway will be crowned. Then rap artist and St. Louis native J-Kwon will host a
Hip-Hop Spectacle from 8:30-10:30 pm to close out the day's events. On Sunday the
NHRA Stylefest presented by Sony Xplod will run from 10 am - 5 pm. It will feature an
Xtreme Tuner Car Show, the NHRA Sound Challenge and the Xtreme Bikini Jam. All of
this complete with local bands, DJ's and giveaways. Sony will have on-site displays
featuring the latest in mobile electronics and will award car-audio systems valued at
$1,000 to the winners of the Xtreme Tuner Car Show and Sound Challenge.
3-Day passes are $45 and a two-day (Saturday and Sunday only) pass is $35. A one-day
ticket for Saturday or Sunday is $20, while Friday night is $15. For more information log
