(Correction) No rain in Haubstadt, Kaeding WINS!
With the unstable forecast in ELDORA, I decided to stay closer to home and attend the World of Outlaws show in Haubstadt, Indiana. It was my first trip ever to Haubstadt and I was impressed. The track is similar to Farmington except a lot flatter on the staights. The track is very similar to 2 very flat drag strips with corners that appear to catch the cars and send them on their way again. THe surface of the track was tacky and fast all night and gave Sammy Swindell enough traction to break the track record. (The locals said it's been 4 years since the outlaws visitied Haubstadt! WOW) This track held moisture unlike any I've ever seen. There was never any dust and it was tacky all night. I noticed at every break in the action, packing trucks/tow trucks would run in the track to keep the moisture in it. There was never any black marks on the surface, even after the final laps of the feature! That rarely happens.
Brian Paulus #28 led for the first 10 laps or so before coming upon lapped traffic and it appeared he looped it by himself. During his mishap, he collected the 2nd place Tutnal also! This gave the lead to Steve Kinser who led the rest of the way with Donny Schotz on his bumper. There were many close races and quite a few flips. In fact one of the local guys had the worst flip of the night. #28 Doctor Johns (.....KEITH????) flipped violently down the front stretch coming down hard upside down. It took a while to get him out and he walked to the ambulance after a lengthy delay.
Some of the other results were Sammy Swindell 4th, Craig Kinser started in the rear and finished 8th or 9th?? Another of our locals, Danny Lasoski ran off the pace all night.
The world of outlaws roll into TRI CITY speedway Saturday night for their last area appearance of the year! A special thanks to one of the locals who bought me dinner for visiting his track. They are quite proud of their track and called it the fastest 1/4 mile in the U.S. HMMMMM. Swindell did turn a lap of 11.1 something!
