One hundred forty-five points separate Hess, Daum through six races

MILLSTADT, Ill. (June 23, 2008) – One hundred forty-five points separate Mike Hess and Zach Daum in the O’Reilly POWRi National Midget Series standings as the organization comes off a two-week hiatus for a two-race swing in southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.

Hess is the only driver between the two this season to win; the pair is shooting for victories at the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Ky. on Friday and Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. on Saturday. Both races are scheduled to be 30 laps and are the first this season at their respective tracks. Both of these events will be ran in conjunction with the Midwest Sprint Car Series.

The races are also scheduled to be the first POWRi-only races since Saturday, June 7, when Brad Loyet won at Belle-Clair Speedway. Hess won the second race of the season at Grand Valley, Mo., and earned the point lead after the weekend’s seventh annual Knoxville Midget Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa, an event co-sanctioned by USAC, POWRi, Badger and SMRS.

Other drivers to win include Brett Anderson (Macon, Ill.), Casey Shuman (Wheatland, Mo.) and Loyet (Belleville, Ill.). Daum’s best finish was second place. Brad Sweet completed a sweep of the Knoxville Midget Nationals on Friday and Saturday.

Anderson is third in the standings, followed by Russ Harper and Daniel Robinson.

In Micros, Eric Edwards leads the standings after winning the first two races of the season, both at Macon Speedway. Jeremy Camp won last week at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., and looks to even the score with Edwards and keep other competitors at bay in the process. The Micros will only run at Paducah on the 1/5 mile track.

Defending series champion Dereck King is second in the point standings, 230 points out of the lead, with Robbins third, Jacob Patton fourth and Chad Kendall fifth.
