This Sunday afternoon March 22nd, the O’Reilly Southern All Stars East Racing Series will return to the Travelers Rest Speedway for the $5,000 to win Ice Breaker 40 Super Late Model showdown.

Jody Palmer’s 3/8ths mile clay oval played host to one of the series’ most exciting events in 2008. “If Jody has the race track anything like it was back in September we will be in for a real show.” said OSAS-East Series Director Kelley Carlton. “Rambo Franklin, Chris Madden, Casey Roberts and G.R. Smith traded the lead and some paint several times over the last half of the fall event. Franklin eventually took the win ahead of Smith and Roberts.”

An excited Palmer added, “We've already had calls coming in from Late Model Drivers in 5 different states. We are expecting to see the most competitive field ever at TR Speedway this weekend. We will keep the show moving to get the fans home early Sunday afternoon.”

If this weekend’s Ice Breaker 40 is anything like the $10,000 March Madness at Cherokee, the fans are going to be in for a treat.

Pole sitter Chris ‘Smokey’ Madden and Jonathan ‘Superman’ Davenport would lead the field to the green flag..

Davenport powered his new Rocket Chassis on the high side taking the lead from Madden exiting turn two. Madden stayed close, and on lap twenty made a daring move off of turn four. The two cars made contact on the front stretch, resulting in a spin for Madden’s #44. Davenport retained the lead and went uncontested until Georgia’s Clint Smith began to reel him in during the final laps.

The two would race side by side working lapped traffic with Davenport using the top groove to his advantage putting lap cars between he and Smith. As he took the checkered flag, Davenport made hard contact with the outside barrier in the first turn almost getting airborne. The car had to be carried to the scales on the wrecker, but Jonathan ‘Superman’ Davenport would not be denied. Davenport won $20,000 in less than 24 hours by winning the Modoc 100 the previous night.

Many of the O’Reilly SAS East top contenders are expected to be on hand, including Series Points Leader Jonathan Davenport, two time East Champions Casey Roberts and Rambo Franklin, Chris Madden, Ricky Weeks, G.R. Smith, Pete Ivey, and David Smith.

Sunday’s action will move quickly with racing starting promptly at 2:00 PM. Time limits will be enforced in all support divisions.

Travelers Rest Speedway will also host the popular Fastrak GM Performance Crate Late Models for a $2,000 to win event the same day.

Many drivers on hand will pull double duty entering both crate and Super Late Model events.

Support divisions include Renegade, Stock 4, Stock 8, Pure Stock and Young Gun classes all racing for increased purses.
