LEXINGTON, KY -- After a two week break, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts will be back in action this Thursday, June 2nd, at the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY and this Friday, June 3rd, at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY.
On Thursday night, June 2nd, Richmond Raceway will host “Thursday Night Thunder” for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series with a $3,000 paycheck awaiting the winner. This "Thursday Night Thunder" event is a make-up race after the April 29th rainout. It will be the 10th appearance for the Battle of the Bluegrass Late Models at the James Stinnett and Bobby Reed promoted "Action Track". In the previous nine races since 2002, Mike Marlar, the 2003 BoB Champion, leads the win list with three wins including last season's "Butterball" Wooldridge Memorial Race. Track record holder Mike Jewell and Mike Hawley each have recorded two wins at Richmond in O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass competition. Jesse James Lay, Greg Johnson and Tyrel Todd have also entered victory lane at Richmond in BoB Late Model action. On Friday Night, June 3rd, the Larry Yantz promoted Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY will host their first O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass event of the 2005 season. It will be the 7th appearance since 2002 for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar series at Ponderosa Speedway. In the previous 6 races, Johnny Wheeler has 3 wins with Mike Marlar, Greg Johnson, and Benji Lee each record one victory. So far, the 2005 season for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series has seen six different winners in as many races with Rick Combs, Dan Schlieper, Scott James, Shannon Babb, Whitney McQueary, and Dennis Erb each garnering victories.
136 different drivers have competed with the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series with Dunnville, KY's Whitney McQueary currently leading series point standings by just 70 points over Michael England. Rookie of the Year leader Chris Combs sits third in the series standings with Tim Tungate and Mike Jewell rounding out the top five.
