LEXINGTON, KY - After a thrilling show at 201 Speedway Saturday night, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts heads to Ponderosa Speedway this Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13th for two complete racing programs. Scottsburg, IN's Mike Jewell currently sits on top of the Series points standings.
On Friday May 12th, the Series ventures to Junction City, KY's Ponderosa Speedway for the 3rd Annual Spring 40. A complete racing program is on tap with Hot Laps, Racing Optics Time Trials, Arizona Sport Shirts and Mason Racin' Heats, Design 500 B-Mains, and the 40 lap, $3,000 to win Spring 40. Previous Spring 40 winners at Ponderosa Speedway are Johnny Wheeler and Greg Johnson.
On Saturday May 13th, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series will battle it out in the 7th Annual Hugh "Junebug" Rowland Memorial. Another full night of racing is planned with Hot Laps, Racing Optics Time Trials, Arizona Sport Shirts and Mason Racin' Heats, Design 500 B-Mains, and the 40 lap, $3,000 to win Hugh "Junebug" Rowland Memorial. This event is held in memory of the late Hugh Rowland, better known as "Junebug", who was a resident of Danville, KY and a long supporter of many racers in the Central Kentucky area, selling racing supplies and also owning several winning race cars. Former winners of the "Junebug" Memorial include Don O'Neal, Jay Mobley, Dustin Neat, Mike Marlar (two-time winner), and defending champion Bryan Barber.
Activities for the May 12th and May 13th racing programs will see pit gates open at 4:00 p.m., with main gates set to open at 5:00 p.m. Drivers meetings will be at 6:45, while hot laps will get underway around 7:00 p.m., with time trials set for 7:30 p.m., and racing taking the green flag around 8:00 p.m. Admission prices each evening will be $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, children under age 6 are free, with a pit pass being $30.
Ponderosa Speedway is a 3/8-mile D-shaped oval located on Phillips Lane, just outside of Junction City, KY. Larry Yantz, the 2005 O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Promoter of the Year, is at the helm of "The Pond" once again in 2006. After his win Saturday night at the 201 Speedway, defending 2005 Series Co-Champion Mike Jewell sit at the top of the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series points standings with Bryan Barber in second, defending Series Co-Champion Tim Tungate third, Chris Combs 4th, and Brad Neat 5th as nearly 130 different drivers have competed with the Series in 2006. Just Rattliff currently leads the Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year standings.
