Casa Grande, Ariz (January 13, 2008) – For the fourth time in a row, Jimmy Mars of Elk Mound, WI slipped behind the wheel of Jess Anderson’s ESSI, Inc, Dagwood Graphics, Jimmy’s Pub, Mastersbilt by Mars and parked it in Victory Lane! Mars jumped to the lead early in Sunday evenings 35-lap $5000 to win main event and never looked back. Currently the only thing standing in the way of Mars and a clean sweep of the 2008 Wild West Shootout at Central Arizona Raceway is a trip back to his Wisconsin race shop. Mars plans to skip this coming Wednesday event to tend to the business of building more Mastersbilt by Mars racecars.

At the drop of the green Mars grabbed the lead in turn one as fellow front row starter Mike Stadel slipped high and allowed third starting Brad Looney to quickly grab second and pull even with Mars as the lead duo raced deep into turn three. Mars would lead at the flagstand at the end of one with Looney second, Stadel third, Jack Sullivan fourth and seventh starting Terry Phillips fifth.

Phillips would quickly go side by side with Sullivan down the backstretch on lap two, taking the position off the high side in turn four. Phillips continued his charge towards the front as he moved Stadel back a spot on lap three and slotted third after five circuits.

Another man on the move early was Trevor Glaser from 10th as he quickly jumped four spots to occupy sixth behind Sullivan. Phillips continued his assault on the top five by getting past Looney on lap six while his teammate Jeremy Payne took seventh from his 12th starting spot.

Mars, after changing the power plant after his heat race win was setting a blistering pace and began to encounter the back of the field on lap nine. With 10 in the books Mars continued to lead over Phillips as Looney and Sullivan waged a side by side war for third. Stadel slipped to fifth on lap nine, Glaser stood sixth, Payne seventh, Jason Noll eighth, Will Vaught ninth and John Anderson rounded out the top 10.

Sullivan would take third from Looney on lap 12 while Glaser cracked the top five two laps later passing Stadel. As Mars continued to show the way through traffic 15 laps in, Sullivan closed on Phillips and began challenging for the runner-up position. At the same time, Glaser moved in on the deck of Looney and jumped to fourth on lap 18.

Jeremy Payne found himself side by side with Stadel on lap 19 and secured sixth one lap later as Pat Doar moved up three spots to now sit eighth. Twenty laps in Mars lead Phillips, Sullivan, Glaser, Looney, Payne, Stadel, Doar, Noll, and Vaught.

Mars worked the lapped traffic beautifully to extend his lead over Phillips as the race continued to run caution free. Payne would gain another position as he took fifth from Looney on lap 25, only to give it back one lap later.

With just five to go, Mars put more ground between himself and the second running Phillips, who opened up some breathing room on Sullivan who was feeling the heat from Glaser. Looney was still engaged with Payne as Doar moved past Stadel for seventh.

Mars would run unchallenged over the final five laps to claim his second consecutive and second career Wild West Shootout main event win. Phillips came home second in his Andy’s Frozen Custard, Don Babb Motorsports, GRT by Phillips while Sullivan finished third in his Bear Mountain, New Vision Graphics, Sunsets West Inc GRT, Glaser took fourth in his Farmland Implement Trak-Star chassis with Looney rounding out the top five in his Diamond Pet Food, Willard Quarries, Ron Mitchell Photography GRT.

The Wild West Shootout continues on Wednesday, January 16th with a $3000 to win, 30 laps feature for Super Dirt Late Models and $1000 to win main event for the dirt Modifieds.
