MY Sportsman keeps overheating any ideas i don't know what else to do

What have you done that you don't know what else to do? Need a lot more info to be able to help. What kind of fan, radiator, fan schroud, water pump, pulleys, timing, carb and size of jets. All these things can be factors. What kind of water restrictors? I am sure we can all help you out but need to know what you got first.

It's a 350 40 over timing is running 17 degrees advanced five blade steel fan about 2" from afco 19x24 radiator 600 holley 4 barrel not sure what jets hose's have springs in them am running thermostat

Make sure the fan isn't too far into the shroud. Make sure only about 1/4 to 1/2 the fan blade is inside the shroud. If it is too far in it will not work. I would take out the thermostat also and gut it or buy the water restrictor kit made by moroso. If you buy the kit i usually use the blue one. i think it is a 1/2" hole. About the diameter of your pointer finger. If you dont buy that then take the insides of the thermostat apart so it restricts some of the flow and keeps the water in the radiator longer to get it cooled down. You can also put a bottle of water wetter in the radiator. That will help alittle bit but nothing drastic. A big thing you could do is get a 4 bladed steel fan that came on late 60's early 70's chevy trucks. You can still get them at most chevy dealership parts departments or search a junk yard. They are the best fans you can run. It is not the same as the afco 4 blade fan. Exactly how hot are you running?

17 degrees of timing could be causing the motor to labor. You need to bump the timing up to 30 -36 degrees of total advance in your timing. Check timing up around 2000-2200 RPM.

What water pump? I had a fancy weiand alum pump, and put on a used stock pump and a gutted t-stat, and pulls off after feature at 190 degrees. another pos problem, some long pumps that use a serp belt turn reverse rotation just a thought. shroud must fit well, like 1'' around front 1/2 of fan. the first thing I'd do is cut the center out of t-stat. use water, not anti freeze, as it transfers heat better than anti freeze. I use the water wetter that smalldirt28 had mentioned, but more to help with rust. got holes in the nose? this helps also.

If you are running 17 degrees total advance timing, then that could be a problem, the more the timing is backed off the easier it will run warm. I would try like harris69 said and run from 30-36 total advance and see how that works. Maybe try 33 or so and then you can take it up or down a little depending on how lean/rich it is.

Thanks

Thanks for all the help have not figured it out yet going to change timing tonight and see what that does thanks again for the suggestions
