(8/25/08) -- Jimmy Owens has upped the anty for the National RANKINGS this weekend. The NEWPORT NIGHTMARE was all over the chartz, winning two of the three events he entered over the weekend (that began Wednesday night) pocketing over $20,000. in the process. The O'Show first picked-up victory during night # 1 of the Scorcher at his home-track Volunteer Speedway. The # 20 'Reece Monument Co., Gantte Appraisals, VP Racing Fuels, PRC, Red Line Oil' sponsored Bloomquist / Cornett powered, Ford Fusion racer then wrapped up the weekend defeating the TEAM ZERO bossman Scott Bloomquist at the Lucas Oil Dirt series event in the Bluegrass state. Owens ends BLACK SUNSHINE three race title reign at the Bardstown, KY facility, in an event that wasn't mared by a single caution. Bloomquist got a 2nd place nod, but was uncharacteristically missing from both Top 5 finishes in the World of Outlaw Late Model series sanctioned events at the Gap Wednesday and Thursday. Although not competing in National RANKINGS guidelined events this week, Billy Moyer still holds a sturdy 55 point lead over Bloomquist, despite having 4 more wins. Also Owens has 2 more wins to Bloomquist, yet trails his fellow Tennesseeian by 85 points.

The BABBSTER's error Saturday night in WoOLM series competition cost him probably not only the $10,000. payout, but also a shared stake in 5th in the National RANKINGS. The win instead went to Northern RANKINGS home-state racing icon, Rod Conley, who now shares stake in that divisions Top 20 (with Rick Aukland) earning his first win of the guidelines. Steve Francis keeps dishing out the Top 5 finishes, but again current WoOLM series points leader Darrell Lanigan is rite there behind the KENTUCKY COLONEL in the end. Francis is 4th ranked in the nation, while Lanigan who'se only obtained one National RANKINGS guidelined victory so far this season is just outside the Top 10 in points, behind KID-ROCKET in 11th of the Top 5 standings. And finally, the GEORGIA GIANT picked up his second win of 2008. The runner-up to the 2006 WoOLM series championship crown, got the Thursday night $10,000. payout, beating current Southern RANKINGS points leader Chris Madden and his WoO alumni. Wednesday Clanton got 3rd after losing the lead to Owens in back-marker traffic, while T-MAC got the runner-up nod. Behind Clanton Thursday night was another TEAM ZERO hench-man Brady Smith, who's currently ranked 12th in the nation. National RANKINGS follows both touring groups thru Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and West Virginia, culminating with the HILL-BILLY 100 $40,000. to-WIN race on Sunday.
