Paducah International Raceway crowns champions. Season finale is this week

(Paducah, KY. 10/17/06) A cold night produced hot racing this past weekend as Paducah International Raceway has crowned its champions for the inaugural 2006 season.

In the UMP Chevrolet Late Model division, Terry English defeated Kevin Cole by a 107-point margin to become the first Late Model Champion under the new ownership of NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt Jr, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and Midwestern Promoter Bob Sargent. Michael Steele, Dylan Thompson and John Tindal were 3rd through 5th respectively.

The UMP Pepsi Modified Division Champion is Jeff Elliot. Following Elliot in the championship point race was Troy English. Todd Miller finished 3rd with Ricky Waggoner 4th and Tim Ellington 5th.

The UMP Pure Street Stocks had a repeat champion. Mike Watson picked up his fourth straight title in the Pure Stock Division. Watson scored 1345 points to Darrell Hartman’s 1146 points. Terry Jones, Paul Howard and Harvey Edwards rounded out the top five.

The Harrah’s Metropolis Casino & Hotel Crate Late Model Division Champion is Jeff Walston. Walston picked up 19 feature wins at PIR on his way to the championship. Danny Jolly finished second with 1080 points. Brent Burnett was 3rd with Chad Burks 4th and Ricky Gilbert 5th.

Clint Collins will pick up the first ever season championship in the Outlaw Mini-Sprint Division. Collins and runner-up Rick Odum battled back and forth all year for the top spot with only a 66-point difference separating the two. Louie Baker Sr., Les Riley and Jeff McIntosh round out the top 5 for the season.

James Scott picked up his 2nd Championship in as many years with dominating performances early in the season sealing the way to the title in the 4-Cylinder Warrior Division. Adam Elliot finished 2nd in his first year of racing. Mikey Watson ends up 3rd with Derrick Newsome 4th and John Meredith 5th.

Paducah International Raceway will conclude its racing season this Friday, October 20th with a spooktacular night of racing. A Halloween costume contest will be held for kids and adults with prizes to be awarded. The pit gates will open at 4 pm and the grandstands at 5 pm with racing starting at 7:30 pm. A pre-race party with Mr. Ed and The Horsepower Racing Network will kick off both nights of racing. Tickets are $10 for Adults and Kids 12 and under are Free.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt Jr, Ken Schrader and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the tri of Co-Owners as a partner in September of 2006. The 3/8th mile high banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights, The USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge.
