Another six-division racing program will kick off the Memorial Day Weekend this Friday, May 23 at PIR. UMP Late Models, Crate (Pro) Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4 cylinder Warriors, along with the Vintage Racers will compete in heats and feature events.

Three-time feature winners Tait Davenport of Paducah (Crate Late Models), Pancho Elder of Paducah (Street Stocks), and Jeffrey Bailey of Calvert City (Warriors) will join two-time winners Randle Sweeney of Clifty (Modifieds) and Mark Moore of Murray (Vintage) in attempting to add another checkered flag to their 2008 collections. There have been no repeat winners in the Late Model division.

Friday’s event is sponsored by PIR Pace Truck provider, Royal Oaks Chevrolet and has been rescheduled from an April 18 rain out. Dan Renshaw, who has owned race teams including a NASCAR Craftsman Truck team and is the owner of Royal Oaks Chevrolet, will serve as Grand Marshall for the festivities. The Royal Oaks staff will be on hand, greeting fans and displaying vehicles from their showroom.

The sixth annual UMP Late Model Tri-Track Challenge racing weekend will begin at PIR on Friday night, May 30, then head to I-55 Raceway in Pevely, MO on Saturday, May 31, and end up at Macon (IL) Speedway on Sunday, June 1. Each of the three events pays $6,000 to the Late Model feature winner with a $10,000 bonus being offered to any driver who can win two of the three races. Interest is high to see if one of last year’s winners can repeat and possibly bring home $28,000!

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car program rained out on May 10 has been rescheduled for Monday, July 28. All ticket stubs and wristbands from May 10 will be honored for this complete new show for the WoO Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Super Cell Mini Sprints.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of co-owners as a partner in September of 2006. In 2008 the 3/8th mile high-banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights of Stars, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, the USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. PIR races every Friday night and is located off Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky. For more information call the PIR hotline at (270) 448-4PIR or the track at (270) 898-SHOW (7469).
