PEORIA — You can change the drivers, but it’s hard to change the results in the Late Model feature race at Peoria Speedway.

In his second full season driving the No. 75 car owned by Peoria’s Ray Neltner Jr., Brian Harris led start to finish Saturday for his first win this year at the quarter-mile dirt track on Farmington Road. Harris — from Davenport, Iowa — joined a long list of big-name drivers that have won in Neltner’s 75 car.

That list includes household names Jim Strube, Ray Guss Sr., Ray Guss Jr., Billy Tuckwell and Tim Lance , among others.

“There’s a lot of history there, and It’s neat to be a part of that.” said of the Peoria-based team that has competed nearly 40 years. said Harris, to Dirt Racer Magazine, Harris started Saturday at the back of the pack, literally, when his team forgot to draw for position in his heat race. He started the second heat in last, but plowed through eight drivers to win it. “I knew right then we had a good car tonight,” Harris said. “And the track was perfect after all that rain.”

Harris said he struggled Friday in Lincoln, but had no problems Saturday in Peoria. He started the 30-lap feature race from the No. 2 position, held the lead through the first 10 laps and endured a restart on the 11th. He got into lap traffic on the 20th lap and held off runner-up Todd Bennett, Mike Mullvain (third) and Jeff Maher (fourth).

“It was a good end to the weekend,” said Harris, who had 20 wins and 35 top-five finishes in 38 starts in 2007.

Other winners Saturday included Joe Markle (Limited Late Model), Doug Sauder (Pro Street), Erik Bruce (Modified) and Ken Butterfield (Hornet).
