MEMPHIS, Mo. (Oct. 14) — Due to heavy rainfall in the Memphis, Mo., area on Wednesday and more forecasted for Thursday, officials from RL Promotions and the Scotland County Speedway have pushed back this weekend's Pepsi Memphis Nationals by one day.

Originally slated for Thursday through Saturday, the tiny rural community of Memphis, Mo., will be transformed into a mecca of racing fans, cars and drivers as the Scotland County Speedway hosts the fourth running of the Pepsi Memphis Nationals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-18.

“Workers have been working the track surface all week, but this little bout of rain has set us back a day on track prep,” said promoter Todd Staley. “We want to give the fans a good show and the drivers a smooth racy track. If the weatherman is being honest, the forecast looks great for Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the 50s and maybe even lower 60s.”

For the first time since the 2007 season, USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks will be in action on the semi-banked 3/8-mile clay oval. By popular demand, the Outlaw Hobbies have also been added to Saturday's program.

The action kicks off on Friday with an open practice for all classes from 6-9 p.m., followed by a night of pre-race bench racing in the spacious Scotland County Speedway pit area. For race fans wanting to get a sneak peek at the competitors and their machines, admission to the grandstands is free. Gates will open at 4 p.m.

All drivers will draw on Saturday and Sunday for starting position, and will re-draw each night for feature race starting positions. A complete program of qualifying heats, last chance races and feature races are on tap both nights for all four classes. Outlaw Hobbies will also run on Saturday night.

On Saturday, pit gates open at 12 noon, grandstands open for general admission seating at 2:00, hot laps are at 3:30 and racing begins at 4:00. On Sunday, pit gates open at 12 noon with grandstand gates swinging open at 1:00 and racing at 2:00. There will be no hot laps on Sunday.

National points will be awarded each night in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series for USRA-licensed drivers, but a USRA license is not required to compete in this event. This weekend is the final weekend for drivers to earn national points, so dozens of title-chasers are expected to be on hand to improve their rankings in the national standings.

In all four classes, USRA or IMCA-type rules shall apply. Hobby Stocks have a 9:1 360 c.i. limit with no weight rule. In the Stock Car division, roller rockers are permitted, but roller cams are not allowed; a 2-barrel carburetor is permitted (Rochester, Motorcraft or Holley 4412). The American Racer KK704 or stamped Hoosier G60 tires are permitted for this event in the Modifieds, Stock Cars and B-Mods. Grooving and siping of tires is permitted. For complete USRA rules go to www.usraracing.com online.

Modifieds will race for $700 to win on Saturday and $1,000 to win on Sunday. Stock Cars battle for $500 to win Saturday with a top prize of $700 on Sunday. Saturday night's B-Mod feature will pay the winner $400, with Sunday's winner getting $500. Likewise, Hobby Stock drivers will race for $400 to win on Saturday and a $500 first-place paycheck on Sunday night.
