Junction City, KY-August 20, 2010- The D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman Weekend Warrior 40 would headline the racing program on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway and Randy Petro of Columbus, IN would visit victory lane and claim the $2,000 payday for the event. Other feature event winners for the night included Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models, Michael England of Glasgow, KY in Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds, and Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY in Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Models.

Randy Petro and John Smith would bring the 22 car starting field to the green flag in the D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman main event, with Smith leading lap 1 before Petro would take the lead on lap 2 after a side-by-side battle, followed by Gerald Haynes, Jr., Bartley Grant, and Daniel Latham. Ed Leasure would make his way into the top five on lap 4, with Petro pulling away a bit from Smith for the lead. The front five remained the same until the first caution waved on lap 12 for a spin by Bobby Carrier, Jr. in turn three. Back underway, only two more laps would be scored before Jeremy Scott and Reggie Ritchie would tangle in turn two. The front five would stay the same as Rick King would spin in turn three two laps later to draw the next caution. This restart would see Leasure finally grab fourth from Grant after a battle for the spot, only to see the caution wave again on lap 19 for a slowed Eddie Stewart, who would pit with a flat tire. This restart would again see the top five stay intact until the caution flew again on lap 24 for a slowed Goble Bertram in turn two. Only one more lap would be scored before the most serious incident occurred when Keaton Streeval and Jarrod Latham would tangle exiting turn four, with Latham rolling his mount two and a half times, bringing out the red flag, but Latham would walk away from the accident. The final restart of the race would see Smith roll along Petro and the pair would battle side-by-side for lead, with Petro taking command again on lap 28, while Leasure snuck past Haynes, Jr. for third on the same circuit. Jeremy Hines would make his way into the top five on lap 34, but no one would catch Petro on this night as he would drive the Chris Johnson owned Jimmy’s Motorsports/BG Chassis/Dasco Race Supply sponsored #95 to the victory ahead of Smith, Leasure, Haynes, Jr., and Hines. The remainder of the top ten would be Grant, Daniel Latham, Rick King, Pat Hagan, and Billy Meredith. Petro would also be top qualifier among 35 entries at 16.300 seconds and also win the dash, with heat wins going to Leasure, Meredith, and Hines, while Jeremy Scott would win the B-Main.

Michael Chilton would take the lead at start of the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model feature event, followed by Victor Lee, Todd Coffman, Brian Smith, and Daniel Hatcher. The front five would remain the same until the only caution of the race flew when fifth place running Hatcher would slow on the track in turn two and be finished for the night. The restart would see 10th place starting Dustin Linville go to the fourth spot and take third one trip later on lap 12, while Joey Daniel would pull past Smith for fifth on lap 13. But it would be Chilton pulling away over the final laps and drive to the win in his Central Painting/Chilton’s Lawn Care/Harrod Farms sponsored #97 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, Mike Bullock Race Engines powered entry. Lee, Linville, Coffman, and Daniel would complete the top five, while Chase McWhorter, Smith, John Mulligan, Wesley Brummett, and Jeff Johnson rounding out the top ten.
