Paducah International Raceway names winner in the Chevrolet Silverado Sunset Giveaway Cole beats English in Late Model Feature.

(Paducah, KY. 9/09/06) Excitement and anticipation were in the air at Paducah International Raceway as the qualifiers for Paducah International Raceway’s Chevrolet Silverado Sunset Promotion were on hand to find out who would be the winner of a new $40,000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup courtesy of Cache River Chevrolet, Chevy Racing and PIR.

The evening started off with a wicked fast tacky track that had racecars spread out racing in 3 and 4 grooves from top to bottom. With each heat race being completed you could feel the tension start to build as the contest qualifiers wondered if it would be their lucky night. Each qualifier had their named qualified at PIR by random draw. The first night for qualifying was June 2nd, 2006. Finally the heat races were over, The C-Plant Federal Credit Union dash for cash in the Late Model and Modified divisions were all that stood in the way of one person and a new Chevrolet Silverado Pickup. With Michael Steele and Ricky Wagoneer picked up the wins in the C-Plant Federal Credit Union Dashes in the Late Models and Modifieds respectively, it was now time to bring out the qualifiers.

Intermission normally sees a scurry of fans to the restrooms or concession stands, but on this night no one was leaving their seat. The tension in the air so thick that you could cut it with a knife as PIR Manager Jeff Bruhn drew the names out for track Announcer “the Bear to declare in what order the qualifiers would try and unlock the locked box that held the key to the Chevy Silverado from Cache River Chevrolet.

The anticipation and anxiety for the qualifiers grew with each key that went into the lock and failed. One, two, five, eight, and then the tenth key went in turned left and opened the box to unlock the key for the Chevy Silverado Pickup. Paducah resident Keith Patterson whose name was qualified on the first night of the contest had just opened the lock and recovered the key that allowed him to drive away with the PIR pace truck. Patterson will receive his own Chevy Silverado in the next few weeks. Patterson’s wife explained how she “almost fainted” as the Patterson’s took a victory celebration around the 3/8th high-banked oval honking the horn and waving to fans.
