For the second consecutive year, World of Outlaws Sprint Series Mean 15
racer Daryn Pittman celebrated a victory Friday night at Knoxville
Raceway in the 20-lap Clean-O World Challenge, an international
invitational featuring drivers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and
the United States.

Pittman, who only minutes earlier had raced to a top-five finish in his
Titan Racing Maxim in the A-main on the second qualifying night for the
45th Annual Knoxville Nationals, started ninth but quickly worked his
way to fifth as Brent Antill and Tim Kaeding set the pace.

Kaeding wasted little time grabbing the lead as Shane Stewart, the
Outlaws top rookie contender who won the A-main and had barely finished
celebrating when he had to climb back aboard his Snap-On Tools Maxim to
start the Clean-O Challenge, seemed to pick up where he left off and
closed on the leaders from the 12th starting spot.

But once Kaeding had clear track in front of him, he pulled away from
the field, adding distance on each lap. Then disaster struck. Stewart
and Kerry Madsen made contact on the frontstretch, leaving Stewart’s
machine with severe front-end damage. At the same time, Cody Geldart
flipped into the wall in Turn 4, bringing out a red flag.

On the restart, the leader Kaeding appeared to cut a tire as he took
his car directly to the pits. Pittman had gotten around Antill and with
six laps to go tried to stretch his advantage. But Donny Schatz, a
four-time winner this season with the Outlaws, wouldn’t let Pittman
relax. Schatz got up to Pittman on the final lap but Pittman fought him
off in the final corner to earn the $10,000 victory.

Schatz was second, followed by Brooke Tatnell, Antill, Kerry Madsen and
Travis Rilat.
