POWRi Midgets & Micros at Macon Speedway This Saturday Night!

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway is proud to bring open wheeled action to the track this weekend to keep you on the edge of your seats. The 2009 O’Reilly POWRi National Midget and 600cc Micro Sprint Series begin their outdoor season this weekend at the lightning quick Macon Speedway in Macon, IL on Saturday, April 25. 2006 POWRi National Midget Champion, Brad Kuhn of Avon, IN leads the charge after taking the opening event at the Southern Illinois Center in Duquoin, IL in March. He holds a slim 20 point lead over Tim Siner of Dupo, IL and Nick Knepper of Belleville, IL who are tied for the second position followed by Tracy Hines, Andrew Felker and 2008 Rookie of the Year, Daniel Robinson. 2008 defending series champion, Brett Anderson, hopes to return strong from a blown engine at the Duquoin event. The POWRi 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprints will also be on the card for the weekend with Gregg Dillion leading the charge after an exciting win at Duquoin. He leads 2007 and 2008 POWRi champ, Derek King of Vienna, IL in the early point standings followed by Austin Laskey of Tulsa, OK, Andrew Felker, and Ryan Guyett of Springfield, IL. The POWRi cars should put on quite a display this weekend as well over 100 cars are expected to battle it out on the super fast 1/5 mile oval.

Saturday night will also be featuring our UMP Modified, Street Stock and Hornet divisions in conjunction with the POWRi sanctioned events. Due to Mother Nature last Saturday night, Macon Speedway will also have a double feature for the UMP Street Stock division.

Macon Speedway offers fun family entertainment every Saturday night from April to September. With many fan favorite events on the schedule, including three “Night of NASCAR Stars;” May 25, June 11 and July 22, the famous Herald and Review 100 to be held on July 2 which is UMP’s premier SummerNational event, 2009 is stacking up to be a memorable year. Macon Speedway will open their pits at 3:00pm with driver registration from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. National Midget drivers’ meeting is at 5:30pm with the 600cc Outlaw Micro drivers meeting at 5:45pm. Hot laps are at 6:00pm with racing at 7:00pm. Adult general admission tickets are $15 and kids 12 & under are still free. Pit gate admission will be $30 for the event.
