Inside Line Promotions - TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2018) - Robbie Price competed in the 25th annual Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway last weekend aboard the family owned No. 21P. The 2018 edition marked the fifth consecutive year that he has made the trip south to take part in the prestigious event.

The native of Cobble Hill, B.C., was 19th quickest in the second group of time trials out of the 43 drivers who hit the track in that flight last Thursday. In heat race competition, Price finished second, which put him in a B Main. Unfortunately, he hooked a rut and took a wild ride, which destroyed his car and forced him to bring down a backup car for the next night.

"Thursday night started off pretty decent," he said. "I didn't quite qualify as well as I wanted to. I was pretty conservative on the first lap and on the second go-around hit a hole pretty hard in turn one. In the heat race, I didn't quite get the jump on the start and Willie (Croft) was fast all weekend. We weren't bad in the B Main. I moved around a few spots and tried to run the top, but it was around the bottom so I wasn't really gaining anything. I hit (turn) one wrong and it ate me up and I went for a pretty good ride."

Price timed in 27th quickest in his group on Friday. He worked his way from the eighth starting spot to finish fifth in a heat race. In the B Main, contact with another car just past the halfway point ended his night.

"The car we brought down was a brand new Triple X," he noted. "We were pretty good right off the bat. I was the last car out for my qualifying flight so that kind of hurt me. A few cars got called for a jump in the heat so that moved us up, which made it tough to earn points for passing cars to get locked in. We were okay at the start of the B Main, just had some bad luck."

The finale of the Trophy Cup saw Price open his evening with a win in the D Main, which moved him into the C Main. Price moved forward from the 12 th starting spot to finish eighth, coming up a few spots shy of transferring to a B Main.

"We didn't have enough points to get in a qualifier so we started the final night pretty deep," he said. "I broke my brake pedal in the D Main and went to switch it for the C Main and there was a different throw on it and it didn't move far enough before it hit the firewall. I didn't have any brakes in the C Main, but we were good. I got up to fifth and tried the bottom on a restart and got passed by a few cars. I had to try something. I couldn't just follow them, even though I didn't have any brakes. It just didn't work out."

Price is currently working on a deal to race during Thanksgiving weekend in Arizona with the ASCS Southwest Region.
