Pure Street Question

I'm currently in a ministock but am throwing around the idea of building a purestreet for next year. The cameros look awesome as a street stock but I don't see too many of those around. I can get an 86 monte pretty cheap but was wondering if there was a difference between a mid 80s monte compared to the late 70's early 80's style monte/cutlass/regal. Is there a difference as far as one being set up better for a purestreet..Suspension set up wise or whatever else. I'm assuming they are pretty much the same but just throwing something out there. I know you still got to setup'em up right and put some ponies in it. just curious.

Thanks
Bill

I dunno, but if you put a v8in your mini you could race as a bomber at Belleville.

yeah i know....but i'd have to take the weight jacks and shocks out wouldn't I...besides i'm trying to get in a class as SFCR so I can watch JPR race that mod every week. hehe

Wheel21, they went to what is refered to as metric I believe in 78'. before that the Monte Carlo's were bigger and heavier. I don't believe there is any differsnce from 78' on up.

wheel

i planned on building a purestreet for next year. as far as the metric thing i have no idea, but the monte style won the last 2 features out at farmington. i know chris boyd would know all about what you want to know. 431-5123. hey bill come v8 time its chevy time. i thought you would like that. see ya later #0 "the wolf" ;)

wheel don't make me bring out the old monte:) 78 is metric
there are okay buick regal is same as a monte ..... now if you get a 72 monte they have close to the sam wheel base but parts are diffent

the 78 and up gm metric cars make good street stocks as does the older stuff, the only downfall to the metric and older cars is the roll centers are not optium for racing, the front geometry is not the best in the world, you can mix and match spindles and suspension parts to get it right. i.e. taller lower ball joints aftermarket upper ball joints move the mounting points on the upper a frames etc. your hands are kinda tied on rear suspension work unless you are really good with a plasma cutter. the camaros have much better front suspension for racing but they are not as durable i.e. unibody construction. i have raced full frame cars for 15 years and love them, this sat. night will be my first in a camaro so i may have some feedback next week. hopefully it will be positive!!!!!
